What a great event this is going to be out in Odessa. This might be the most exciting field event out there. 5 or 6 kids around 51-52 with Sauls from Borger coming into his old form going to be fun to see who gets out.

Also lets hear some predictions on the whole meet who going to win what and stuff like that.

The shot put may be competitive with 5-6 throwing the same but WEAK.. 51-52 feet??? 55 feet is the standard of a great shot put throw.

How far do you throw the shot? (12lbs, of course)

But then again thats when you had discus throwers and shot puters all over the place. In My district there was 2 throwers over 55 and 2 others at 49-50.. I remember in the discus at the San Angelo Relays that they had a Cone out on the 140' line and they didnt even mark anything under that even if it was in bounds and a legal throw. they didnt waste time with throws under that. Too many throwers over 140' Now 140' would get you 3rd or 4th... Times have changed. The point im making is that now a days 50 ft is very good but when you consider it in perspective its average

I tend to agree with BM on this one....Especially West Texas 3a. A majority of the time a 1a or 2a regional winner would also take the 3a classification as well. I am 39 and threw around 48-50 feet. This got me to regionals but I was pounded by 55 and 56 footers when I got there.

has anyone ever heard of Matt McKinney? kid from refugio a couple of years back... absolute beast who threw the shot over 50 in presses... and 63 or so doing a spin...

his discuss throw was rediculous too... somewhere near 180'... maybe longer...

200-7 *Matt McKinney, Refugio, TX
in the discuss...

BM i never said those were great throws did i. i said it was going to be a great comp. If it is good enough to win than take it. You did not throw 59 back when you were in H.S. Nice try.

Your actualy Right it was more like 58' 10" 3/4 but decided to round it up. Threw 61'8" in College. I may even have the 4A region I Record in another event if it is still there, It was last year. Its over 20 years old now. But the main point is 51 is average at best. Back then 51 was about what some of us Pressed from the front of the ring. .. 51-52 is average.. But I guess a meet full of 51 ft throwers would be competitave and intrestinig in a way.

BM... If you are who I think that you are.... then you were one heck of a thrower. Saw you throw at the Angelo Relays my junior or senior year.

Watching midgits go at it has always been a dream of mine. It rates second to watching girls fight.
