Just got back from the game. Mcgee looked really good. He completed every pass he made and had 32 yds rushing after only one quarter of play. Defense showed potential to be ok, but they are still not where we need them to be. The offense was really clicking and we are suprisingly deep at QB. I am trying my best to not get excited and get my hopes up. :D

I just got back to, looks like the new D will be a nickle.

New "D" is gonna be a 4-2-5

What time is the game gonna be on FSN.

whtfbplaya

The nickle will help some with the pass, but to run it as a base we will have to have stud safetys step up like linebackers. My fear is that we are going to have trouble with the run in this D. They still played alot of man for a nickle with no safety in the middle. If we play man at all I say bring some heat.

Bulldog_12

I think the 4-2-5 will work for us, we have strong safeties who can come up and play the run. I think the defense can be good seeing as several starters didn't play for various reasons, and the 1st string defense was split up more than the first team Offense. The White team offense was pretty much all first team except for one or two people.

with the early weak schedule they should have time to get things together.

BTW, the 4-2-5 technically is not the nickle, even though you do have 5 DBs on the field.

True Mac. The 4-2-5 is really more like a 4-4-3 with the SS and the Monster walked up. It's just a gimmick to get more speed on the field. Defenses like this will, IMO, bring back the big physical O-lines and the big physical power running game. The Steelers and the Carolina Panthers are the only 2 teams in the NFL that still use this philosophy and they are having plenty of success against the smaller speed and finese based defenses of today's NFL. I also realized that is a lot of what USC does as well, and we've all seen their success over the last 3 seasons.

Technically the 4-2-5 is a nickle package for the fact that you do have 5 dbs, along with the 3-3-5 and 5-1-5

Hopefully for the aggies sake they can improve during summer practices

-one defensive unit gave up 7.0 yards per play. the other 6.6 per play. and no, that's not b/c your offense is really good.

-a walk-on was 7-12-140 yards and a TD passing. freaking Jamie McCoy was 6-7 for 70 yards passing. between these two superstars McGee, and another walk-on the defense gave up 18 of 24 pass attempts. that's understandable as the leading receivers were giants known as Howard Morrow, Chad Shroeder, and Joey Thomas.

-as bad as the pass defense is w/ the 5 DB's in the 4-2-5 defense, the rush defense is probably even worse. one unit gave up 7.0 yards per rush. the other 4.7 per rush.

-12 penalties in an hour and a half scrimmage? and normally the refs let alot more go in scrimmages and practices.

-6 punts w/ a net of 22.7 yards. Did the kicker/punter from last year graduate?

-a total of three pass breakups. one from a walk-on.

Morrow was the top WR recruit in the state last year, and Schroeder's been the fastest guy on the team since he got here. Yeah, he's faster than Reggie.

Ol' Chad averaged about 17 yards per catch last year and had five TD's on only 20 catches last season. Morrow was an Super Prep, Parade, and PrepStar All-American two years ago at Keller Fossil Ridge. Thomas has emerged as a great pass-catching TE after walking on a couple of years ago.

And yes, our defense is horrible. And no, it's not for lack of talent.

It's been the lack of coaching, and Coach Fran didn't help it any by hiring Coach no[D]arnel

The punting really sucked yesterday, BUT in defense of Justin Brantley, the wind was blowing extremely hard for most of the game. Brantley was the punter last year and was VERY good, I think he will be fine.

I know I am in the minority, but I am a huge Franchione fan. I think he is a top 10 college coach despite the results on the field the last few years. I just hope A&M has the patience to stick with it because that program was in decline and it's taken him a while to right the ship. I can't explain the results recently, but I believe he will turn things around in a big way.

I hope he rights the ship. Here are three of our last coaches in year four:

¤ Recent Aggie Coaches in Year 4 ¤
• 1992 R.C. Slocum 12-1 7th
• 1985 Jackie Sherrill 10-2 6th
• 1975 Emory Bellard 10-2 11th

Is that # out to the side their final national ranking?

I think a lot Ags would take 10-2 this upcoming season and a top 15 ranking. Granted they would likely be 3rd in their division behind Texas and Oklahoma...but that would likely mean a trip to the Cotton or Holiday Bowl if the Big 12 gets 2 teams into the BCS.

Yes, that is final ranking. 10-2 would be good, but Fran really needs to beat one of OU or Texas to shut everyone up. He cant afford to lose to Tech or have a slip up against someone like Baylor or OSU.

Not trying to make excuses for Fran, but those guys coached in a different conference and a different era. Parity has hit college football and the Big 12 is infinately more competitive than the Old SWC ever was.

R.C. coached in the big 12 and won and he would have kept winning had he stayed.

I dont know how he would have done if allowed to continue, he was starting to decline, but I definately didn't see 5-5 as a reason to fire him after being the winningest coach in A&M history.
