It will be in College Station when the UT Women's Tennis team meets the Lady Aggies. Matches start at 6 P.M.

If UT wins they will cinch at least a tie in the competition for the year. They would get the cup by the tie breaker because it goes to the one who won it the previous year. I would rather the tie breaker go to the one that won the football game because that is where the most fan support is. But if they did UT would still get it because we beat the Aggies in football last fall. Right now the points standings are UT. 8.5 A&M 3. Total points available is 19.

This is UT tennis player Mia Marovic. She is from Croatia. In fact of the 7 UT tennis players 2 are from Croatia, 1 from Canada, 1 from PA, 1 from MT, 1 from AZ, and one from San Antonio, TX.

The way that matchings are scored in college tennis for both men and women's teams is that there are 7 points available and you need to get 4 points to win. What they do is that they have 6 singles matches and they are worth one point each and that gives us 6 of the 7 available. They also have three doubles matchings and the team that wins two of the three doubles matches (or 3 out of 3) gets the point.

You are correct Phil! I forgot that they changed D1 women over to that scoring system in the past year or two. D2 and D3 women as well as D2 men still play on a 9-point scoring system. It's crazy stuff!

Of interest regarding UT's 10 men roster tennis team is that 2 are from Mexico, 1 is from Australia, 1 is from Serbia, 1 is from Florida, 1 is from Kansas and 4 are from Texans. One of the Texans is Hubert Chodkiewicz from Corpus Christi.

This is the San Antonio player Courtney Zauft. She is a sophomore and a very good tennis player.

Bad news as Texas A&M takes the first doubles court match and is leading one of the other ones. If the Lady Aggies get the second doubles match they will lead 1 - 0. Bad news indeed!

Some good news as Texas takes Court 3 doubles game and ties the doubles match at 1 game each but unfortunately the Lady Aggies are only one win away on Court 3 from getting the deciding game in the doubles point.

In this third match the Lady Aggies were ahead 7 to 4 with just one game left to win but UT is fighting back in this game and trails 7 to 5 and is serving.

Lady Aggies win the 3rd game. This gives them the lead in the match 1 - 0.

Not looking good for the UT Lady Horns as they are trailing in the first sets of all six Singles Matches. :(

Not looking good for UT as the Lady Aggies have won the first set of all of the six singles matches. :( Now all the Lady Aggies have to do is win 3 of the second sets and they will cinch the match and get the Lone Star Showdown Cup.

We may be able to pull something in the second sets. We are ahead in four of them and one of them we are close. We will see.

It looks like for sure the Lady Horns are going to win three of the second sets. However, they need to win one of the other three or the Lady Aggies will cinch the match. Come on Lady Horns! Fight!

We have won two of the sets now in the second sets. We need to win two more. One of them we have a confortable lead but you never know and two of the other ones are very close. We need to get one of them.

UT finally wins the third game in the second set. We need to win one more though and it looks like we only have a chance at one of them now. Come on Courtney!

The Lady Aggies have won a Singles match and lead the match 2 - 0. Courtney has fought to tie her match at 4 all. Come on Courtney! Fight!

A&M gets the third point. It is up to Courtney now and unfortunately she is behind 5 to 4. Come on Courtney! Fight!

Courtney tried but couldn't pull it off and loses her match and thus the Lady Aggies cinch another point in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown. UT still leads with 8.5 points to 4. All of the Aggie points have been from women's teams except for 1/2 point.
The next available point will be on April 17 to 19 at the Women's Big 12 Golf Championship. The one that gets the highest ranking will get the point. Also on April 23 there will be a Men's Tennis match in Austin between the two schools for another point.

My apologies. It was Petra I should have been urging in her close game. It looks like Courtney is going to win her match. Still the Lady Aggies have cinched the Lone Star Showdown point.

As a final note Courtney did win her match but the Lady Aggies won the others and wins the match 6 to 1.

I was surprised that more Aggies weren't posting cheering their team to victory. Both of those teams are good and were undefeated in Big 12 Conference Play before the match.
