The LA Dodgers placed first baseman Nomar Garciaparra on the 15-day disabled list before the game because of a strained muscle in his right side and recalled James Loney, who went 1-for-3 with a walk in his major league debut. Loney was a star player (pitcher/1B) for Fort Bend Elkins and led the Knights to a state 5A championship his Sr year. James' first ever hit was a single off of Atlanta Braves starter John Smoltz.
