Results of the Cuero Tourney last weekend (below).. I would like to personally congratulate Gabe Villarreal for his personal best 69 on Saturday. Good Luck to both Cuero teams @ District, Monday and Tuesday :)


Gobblers capture Cuero tourney

Cuero Golf Association hosted its annual Boys High School Tournament Friday and Saturday at Cuero Golf Course.

Cuero High School's Green team easily captured first place shooting a two-day total of 599. The team of Austin Griffin, Steven Bell, Donavon Sanchez, Johnny Spears and Gabe Villarreal shot 306 on Friday and 293 Saturday.

Yoakum High's A team earned the second place trophy with a two day total of 676.

Cuero's White team came in third with a total score of 683. With team members Kevin Iraggi, Parker Schumacher, Brady Boehl, Kyle Verner, and Blayne Jemelka they shot 355 and 328.

St. Joseph High School was fourth with a 701 followed by Beeville, 709; Luling, 709; Pt. Lavaca, 729; Yorktown, 732; Yoakum B, 766; Odem, 768; Refugio, 815; and Edna, 830.

Cuero's Gabe Villarreal shot the lowest score of the tournament recording a 141 which included a second day round of 69, three under par.

Second low score went to Gobbler Austin Griffin with a 146 followed by Steven Bell with a 148 and Kevin Iraggi with a 154.

Cuero's Paul Haun shot a 199 in medalist competition.

Individual scores for Cuero's Green team included: Villarreal, 141; Griffin, 146; Bell, 148; Spears, 164; and Sanchez, 168.

For Cuero's White team the scores were: Iraggi, 154; Boehl, 170; Schumacher, 175; Verner, 184; and Jemelka, 194.

Congrats Gobblers, of course according to some it's not a sport.:D Some it must be talent.:clap: :clap:

The difference in that 69 and 79 alot of times is the thought process and good golf course management. And there is luck involved, but a lot of the time you make your own luck as well.

I agree, and also, learning to forget about the double bogey on the last hole.........

Congrats guys...:clap: way to keep that winning tradition alive...great score, a 293, best ever and the first time to break 300 in school history, i think...:thinking: (might have been a team in the mid-70's that was pretty salty)

just a little FYI - that would be the same boys on the 44 in a row football team :)
