Why do people announce "that THIS is their last post"? Not trying to start nothin'
(unless, you are from Snyder or Monahans :D ).
Is it because they want to see how many
people will try to talk them out of it? If I wanted to leave, I'd just leave.
I was just wondering what the thought
behind it is.

I was just wondering what the thought
behind it is. Its a since of earning a "thanks for the memories" or a "It was fun". Thats what I think anyways.

This is my last post.

From this desk.

In the next few minutes.

Unless I have something to say that is in no way worthwhile before I leave for the softball game I am covering.

I think that it is because they want to hear the "goodbyes" and the "I will miss yous". At the same time you will also get to find out who really did not like you at all. Or, I guess, they are trying to get more people to go with them and start a revolution or civil war.

The last time I checked, this was a "message" board. Where people leave "messages" for others to read. It's also a small community of people where most posters are familiar with each other to some extent. #1 it would be rude to just leave and not say good-bye. #2 It's only fair to let the powers that be know why you are leaving. Maybe it's a problem they can fix. But if they don't know about it, then they can't fix it.

Actually, that was a "throwback" to a picture I put on the Funny Picture thread about Jacket's dealing with posters. Perhaps it was a little too subtle?;)
