This actually happened but I don't know the names but during WW1 before television and radio got going good news of the war was not easy to come by and quite often was several days old. The first ones to find out were congressmen and news reporters would hang around the capitol to see them and get news about the war.
One day a senator was going to Congress and a reporter asked him "Hey Senator! Any News?" (meaning about the War).
The Senator who had been ill a few days misunderstood and answered "Well I'm feeling a lot better today thank you."
