Texas fires

I heard this morning on the radio this morning that 2% of the Texas landscape has burned this winter. :eek:

This spring is awful. We have already had 110 calls in 2 1/2 months. We were out yesterday for 7 1/2 hours at fires and about the same Friday and Sunday.

We've just had an outbreak up here in the panhandle, we hadnt had any really big fires until this week. I think they said there were 6 confirmed deaths after Sunday, when we had those ridiculous winds.

You wanna see some fires just wait until August/September when the dead limbs and brush from Rita catch up. There is no way they can put those fires out in the piney woods. There are so many trees down it is crazy. Firecrews would need chainsaws just to get to the areas needing put out.

Snyder sent a truck and 2 men to Amarillo last night and I heard this morning that several departments around Austin are heading north this afternoon. We are going to be sending and swapping guys out every 24 to 36 hours as long as the large fires around Amarillo are still burning. It is one tremendous mess.
