From Staff and Wire Reports

Defending champion Baylor will open the NCAA women's basketball tournament on Saturday against Northern Arizona in an Albuquerque Region game in Tucson, Ariz.

In hopes of gaining more exposure, the NCAA revealed the bracket Monday this year instead of sharing the stage with the men a day earlier.

Big 12 champ Oklahoma, led by star freshman Courtney Paris, was seeded No. 2 in the San Antonio Region and will play Pepperdine in Denver. A December loss to Illinois may have negated any chances of the Sooners collecting a No. 1 seed.

TCU received a No. 11 seed and will play sixth-seeded Texas A&M in a first-round NCAA women's basketball tournament Cleveland Region game in Trenton, N.J.

One of the most intriguing questions was whether sentimental favorite Texas Tech and outgoing icon/coach Marsha Sharp would get in. But the 15-14 Lady Raiders were shut out of the tournament.

No. 13 Stephen F. Austin, the Southland Conference champions, will play fourth-seeded Arizona State in an Albuquerque Region game in Tucson, Ariz.

North Carolina, Ohio State, LSU and Duke were selected the No. 1 seeds

All four teams have started atop the NCAA brackets before, but the overall top-seeded Tar Heels are the only No. 1 in this tournament with a national title. It's the third top seed for North Carolina as it begins the quest for its second championship since 1994.

Duke has been a No. 1 seed five times and LSU has been selected atop the bracket three times. Ohio State received its second top seeding and the first for the Buckeyes since 1993.

North Carolina, ranked atop the final AP poll, and No. 2 Ohio State each won their regular season and conference championships in their respective Atlantic Coast and Big Ten conferences.

The women's Final Four is April 2 and 4 in Boston.
