Well, as of this afternoon I'll be on vacation and getting ready for my fishing tournament. I've never done one before, so I thought why not just enter one of the biggest one's around.

I'll be a "non boater" in the Bassmaster Elite 100 on Sam Rayburn this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It's basically a pro-am event. I'll get to fish with 2 different pros on Thursday and Friday and if I finish in the top 50, I'll fish a third day with another pro. If I finish in the top 25, I cash a check and if I luck out and finish in the top 3, I come home with a nice prize.

3rd place - 10,000
2nd place - boat worth 25,000
1st place - boat worth 45,000

I already told my wife that if I win a boat we're gonna have to expand the garage. She didn't seem as excited about that prospect as I was. I wonder why?:nerd:

I'm just hoping for good weather and a safe time. Those boats the pros use run in excess of 80 mph!!!

It looks like you may get wet on Thursday. The fish will still be biting though. Some of my better days on Rayburn have been in bad weather. Good Luck.

I would take $45,000 over a boat worth $45,000 any day. The boat's value will depreciate almost instantly...but $45,000 will still be worth $45,000...assuming that we aren't considering inflation, the value of the US Dollar, etc.

Not entirely true... $45,000 will probably get just about cut in half when Uncle Sam gets his cut.

Good luck JD94! That sounds like a lot of fun! My dad has been catching fish every time he goes out, so you ought to get into some fish. I can't wait to hear who you draw to fish with. Be sure to give us a full report!!! Good luck!

Got any strategy going into the tourney? Or will that be dependent on the pro you're with?

Here's the latest report I've found thus far:

Water clear; 60 degrees; 2.32' low. Black bass are very good on watermelon and green pumpkin lizards and soft jerk baits in shallow cover, and on white and white/chartreuse spinnerbaits in the same areas.
