Hawaii is a beautiful place, but it can get old after awhile. You could take up surfing, or fishing. I found a friend that had a place up behind Diamond Head and he used to take me Bow Hunting occasionally. I was stationed at Pearl Harbor when I was in the Navy, and it got to the point where I'd actually look forward to sea time. We'd cruise over to other islands on little two week training ops along with the subs.

A weekend there would be the perfect length?

Oh yeah, even a week to ten days would work. Problem is you're on an island. After about a year or so, there isn't any new places to go. But for a vacation, can't be beat anytime of the year.

In a years time, I went around that thing three dozen times. By the time I got out of the service, I could ride in a car with my eyes closed and tell where we were going. :D

It is hard to believe that you would ever get bored in Hawaii!

Stationed there for 3 years. Disliked the constant tourist 24/7. Got real old. Living on the island was nice, but did get old - but then again, it is a matter of what you make of it. I was on Guam for 3 years prior to that (a MUCH smaller island) and loved it. No matter where you are, if you get involved with people and different activities life will be good. FYI, in a little over 2 years on Hawaii, my wife and I logged almost 30,000 miles on that island. Always doing something. When we left, I was ready though. Sure was nice to get back to Texas!!

I've been to Guam on exercise and was stationed in both Okinawa, Japan and Oahu, HI. Islands do get very very small after about a year.

You can't believe how tired I got of Palm trees. I wanted to see a dang old south Texas Mesquite real bad. Bar-B-Ques over there ain't that great either, can't get mesquite. Probably can now though. From what I hear Honolulu looks just like any other American City now with freeways and shopping centers and everything else. When I was there there were no freeways anywhere on that island and very few four lane roads.

Of course it is hard for me to imagine ever being bored in Hawaii but please bear in mind I have never been there even for a three day visit and will probably never get too. That is an important factor. Probably the old grass is greener on the other side of the fence concept.

Here's a question. There are three interstates in Hawaii. What other state do they go to? :D

Good one Buck! What about Alaska too? (Canada doesn't count). )
