Well said. I feel the same way. I have always liked Sammy Haggar but Van Halen's sound changed when Haggar joined up.

Although I liked both, original Van Halen with Roth was my favorite.

Damn... you didn't use the option "Who gives a chit, they both rocked it"... both had positive influences on the band and their listeners...

I like songs from both of those eras... but I won't vote because this poll could be useful...

Okay, I have to vote to view the results... so I'll vote roth (looked like he had more fun doin' it, burned-out or not... personality-wise I enjoyed Hag more)...

Van Halen rocked with both Roth and Hagar, but they were much better in the Roth days.

Yeah! Sammy was much better when he played for Ronnie Montrose and in his early days.

I loved both versions of the band, but that song DID have special meaning in the 80's.;)
.
I think we all loved 5150, too.:)

I'm a Van Hagar fan. I liked both as well but I always felt that the Red Rocker actually helped Van Halen mature into a great band. ( is it an oxymoron to to use Hagar and maturation in the same thought???) Dave would never have let that maturation to occur.

When Van Halen had David Lee Roth in front, they were the greatest rock band on earth.

Van Halen is my all time favorite band. No doubt Mr. David Lee Roth was the greatest showman of the rock and roll era. In 1984 they were gods amongst mortals. It is sad to see their current state. I check into a VH message board all of the time.

Van Halen, Motley Crue, and Def Leppard was all a boy needed growing up in the 80s. What has happened to real rock and roll?:(

As Joe Dirt would say, it's Van Halen, not Van Hager:D

I saw THE VERY FIRST Van Hagar concert on their 5150 tour in 1986 in Shreveport. I'll remember that one forever! It was great!!!

i cant stand Roth and there might be 1 or 2 songs i can listen to. Hagar songs were so much easier to listen to

Van Halen was MUCH better with Roth as the front man.
That having been said, When David Lee Roth quits singing, and starts talking, it's apparent that he's a nonsubstantial jerk.

My two favorite Van Halen songs were sung by Hagar, but just about every single one after that goes to Roth. The Van Halen explosion happened with Roth, and as good as they were, they were just never the same without him.

But, dang, that guy was a jerk.
