This was sent to me today. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it.

Manager’s 2006 Diversity and Inclusion Competency Suggestions

Diversity and Inclusion takes into account all people of color, females, GLBT (gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender), disabilities, and age.

• After assessing their individual department, managers must list their proactive attempts to:

 Improve their diversity and inclusion hiring statistics
 Improve their diversity and inclusion retention statistics

(This does not mean that unqualified candidates are hired or that non-performers are retained.)

• Managers must include at least three diversity related objectives in addition to the above. These may include the following:

 Sponsor a diversity speaker – minority organizations, disability organizations, GLBT issues, etc.
 Advocate joining a diversity related professional organization (non-managers)
• Report experiences back to individual teams

In my 10 months of applying for jobs...I reached a point where I didn't want to mark "white male" on my resume. I felt that "polynesian female" would DEFINITELY get me an interview with bigger companies

Try to schedule Michael Jackson, Barney Frank, and David Duke in as guest speakers.

on a typically "conservative" board it shouldn't get TOO out of hand...

I'm sure Richard Simmons would be the life of the office party.

It just irks me because I think I do hire the most qualified for the job. Because of that, I have an issue with someone preaching "diversity." We've been programmed to believe diversity should be attained at all costs. Why is diversity important? I think we've reached a point where no one really knows the answer and being diverse for diversity's sake (OK, for PR reasons) is what it boils down to.
