GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Kyle Nicholson, Jason Meyer and Jordan Chambless combined for a shutout, while Josh Stinson delivered a base-clearing double in the top of the ninth to push Texas A&M past fifth-ranked Florida, 4-0, before 3,915 fans at McKethan Stadium.

"Nicholson was great tonight," first-year A&M coach Rob Childress said. "Meyer got six big outs and Chambless turned out the lights."

Nicholson (3-0) scattered five hits over six innings, striking out three and walking one.

Meyer pitched the seventh and eighth innings and retired all six men he faced. Chambless retired all three men he faced in the ninth to seal the victory.

A&M's relievers have thrown 20 straight scoreless innings.

The Aggies (12-1) and Gators (8-5) play Game 2 of the three-game series at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Florida starter Bryan Ball (2-2) was the tough-luck loser. He lasted 8 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He retired 15 straight A&M hitters from the fourth through ninth innings.

The Aggies took the early lead in the top of the first. With one out, Blake Stouffer walked, moved to third on a hit-and-run single to right field by Jose Salazar and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Austin Boggs.

Salazar finished the game with two of A&M's six hits on the night.
