COACH SEARCH NARROWED DOWN TO THREE
School board wants coach in place by Feb. 27
The three finalists for the athletic director/head coach position at Rockdale High School certainly have championship pedigrees.
Bo Robinson of Bangs was a blue collar, hard working 6-foot-4-inch, 255 pound defensive end for the University of Texas and earned All-Southwest Conference honors his senior year in 1992.
Robinson, 34, took over for his father Wendell at Bangs in 2000 and in six seasons at the helm, he has compiled a 56-21 mark and has gone to the state finals twice, losing to Corrigan-Camden in 2002 and Garrison in 2003.
From 2001 thru 2003, Bangs posted 34 victories and is a perr
inial Class 2A power.
Robinson should be familiar to area football fans. He graduated from Bremond High School which during his high school days was in the same district with Milano (13A).
Robinson played for his father Wendell at Bremond.
Along with his standing as an all-state defensive end, he was the starting quarterback and in his junior year in 1987, he led Bremond to the state championship game where they lost to Wheeler and were 14-2.
In his sophomore year, Bremond lost to eventual state champion Burkeville in the state semifinals and finished 14-1.
David Husmann, now at Gladewater, was the head coach at Schulenburg when they grabbed back-to-back titles in 1991 and 1992.
Husmann put together quite an impressive run while at Schulenburg and during a seven-year span (1990-96), was 90-10 including the two state crowns and another appearance in the state final in 1994.
From 1990 thru 1993, the Shorthorns were 45-2.
Husmann left for Class 3A Gladewater in 1997 and in his first season there, went 4-6 after inheriting a 1-9 squad.
Gladewater was 6-5 last season, 4-7 in ‘04, 2-8 in ‘03, 7-4 in ‘02, 12-2 in ‘01 and 9-4 in 2000.
Since his arrival in 2001, Jeff Miller has guided Class 2A Jacksboro to two regional finals and one quarterfinals.
In the past two seasons, Jacksboro has gone 6-5 in 2004 and 5-6 in 2005.
