Just the name "Blue Angels" brings back lots of memories of my youth in Corpus Christi and the annual Naval Relief Festival. The Harbor Bridge in the background brings back lots of memories, too. We used to call it "The High Bridge" when I was a child, and I once thought that it, the Wilson Tower, and Memorial Colloseum must be among the greatest wonders of the modern world.

I was born at NAS Corpus Christi in 1954. I grew up living just across Cayo del Oso and the salt flats from Ward Island, then the home of UCC and now of A&M-CC. (Near the corner of Ebonwood and Alameda, within eyesight of your current school, if you're interested.) When I was a child, many of the structures on Ward Island dated from the WWII era, when it was used by the Navy as part of the aviator training operations that were the primarymission of NAS-Corpus Christi at the time.

I have lots of fond memories of times I spent playing on and exloring the salt flats, Cayo del Oso, Ward Island, and the brushy area between the salt flats and Alameda St. My friends and I had lots of fun and discovered many treasures in that area. One of the best was a dummy bomb that we found mostly buried in the salt flats just north of Ward Island. (In the WWII era, that area had been used for practice bombing runs.)

We went to CC and Port Aransas this summer, we had a great time. I have a picture like John's with me and my son. We really enjoyed touring the carrier as well.

It's amazing what one picture can do. I've spent much of the day recalling fond memories of my youth. I moved from Corpus over thirty years ago, and don't often think about my time growing up there, but those two images bring back so much, including much that isn't really related to either.

Thanks for the memories, AggieJohn.
