i need help older people!!

so we just got a rent house for us too move into, however i need get power to it obviously, i went by it yesterday and there was still power on at the house, how do i get them to change the power to my name and all that stuff

Call the power company, they should be able to guide you. It may require a deposit.

Are you going to get cable tv? If so, roadrunner works pretty well but is expensive. You might try SWB/Yahoo DSL service.

If your local carrier is SBC you can get DSL for one year at $12.95/month by signing up online. The DSL is the way to go.

Since Texas deregulated in 2004, you have a choice of who you get your electrical service through. Be careful though, there may be hidden charges with some of these companies. Do your research!
Also, DSL is still not available in many areas, so dial up may be your only choice. Make sure you have very good virus protection if you get DSL. I learned that the hard way, after it was too late.

for internet, go with cable

if you get dsl, most likely you'll also have to pay for the phone line
my old sprint was s$29 for the dsl + $15 for the phone line - i couldnt even begin to tell you the phone # either, we didnt use it, we used our cell phones

John, it used to be that to have DSL services you did not need an active phone line, just that the house needed to have the wiring. Since DSL stands for digital subscriber line and the line is split into two distinct types of signals I don't see why anyone would have to have a phone service. But, now that DSL rates have fallen under 14 bucks I'm not familiar with the requirements for these cheap services. My DSL is very fast and am locked into a 12 month deal. But at my current $14.95(I have an option to get it at 12.95 now I think) a month rate if I choose to get rid of SBC/Yahoo DSL after 7 months into the contract, I still come out ahead of the cable companies' price for the same period. It IS convenient to have cable if you are gonna move around but long term prices for DSL are very conducive to anyone looking to save a buck.

Also AJ, if you or your fiance has a relative in the CC area with CPL go and get a letter of reference from them or if you have paid your electric it should be very easy for you to call the company to get it changed over to your name. Unfortunatley, if you have never paid a light bill, sometimes they require you to put down a large deposit(this is where the reference comes in handy). I'd be glad to help you in these questions. That wedding is coming pretty fast, I'm sure.

we have sbc/yahoo at my parent's house john and i have the time warner stuff at my apartment (comes w/ the rent or i'd have dsl cause its cheaper)....the only thing about dsl is that it seems to turn off more often than cable internet, but that isnt at everyones house...in our rent house down the street where we live now it never turned off from the day i activated it, but it goes off during peak hours it seems now when i go home to where my parents live now....im not using it so it doesnt bother me unless if i go there so i havent called sbc to see if there is a fix, but thats the only prob that i have seen w/ it...oh im pretty sure for sbc/yahoo you dont have to have a phone line too, you can just get the internet but i could be wrong....just call them and they will tell u...
