EAST LANSING, Mich.

A Michigan State student was taken to a hospital after an altercation with a Michigan basketball player about an hour before the teams played each other Saturday.

Video of the incident shows Michigan reserve Amadou Ba was sitting in the first row courtside during a pregame warmup period. A male fan walked past Ba, then came back toward him. Ba stood up and shoved the fan, who fell to the floor.

The fan was taken to a Lansing hospital, but the extent of his injuries was unclear, Michigan State spokesman Terry Denbow said after the game. The student appeared to be intoxicated, Denbow said.

Video showed police walking the fan up the stairs from the court after the incident.

Michigan State won the game 90-71. Ba did not play, and he declined comment after the game.

Denbow said the incident began with a verbal exchange and police were talking to witnesses. Michigan State campus police declined to comment late Saturday.

Michigan guard Daniel Horton, who said he saw part of the incident, said it appeared the fan challenged Ba.

“We did everything we could to try and prevent it,” Horton said. “But in that situation, it’s tough when a person challenges you. It’s an iffy situation.”

Michigan coach Tommy Amaker said after the game that he did not have any information about the incident.

From what I saw on tv there is no way that guy was hurt. All he did was fall to the ground. Nothing bad, he is setting the stage for a lawsuit.
Why was he on the basketball court anyway. He walked in front of the player.

Granted the Basketball player should not have kicked him or at him like he did.

The player is representing not only himself but his school and has to control himself in that type of situation.

Unless the drunk guy physically attacked him there was no reason for the player to get involved. The way it sounds he was only being verbally assaulted. Must show some restraint.
