Do you or your family collect anything unusual?
My wife collects piggy banks and perfume bottles.
My Dad collects Cast Iron Skillets and similar cooking utensils (corn shaped muffin pans etc).

Me - Department 56 Dickens Village and antique decoys
Husband - Seashells, "old" glass bottles and arrowheads....
We always argue over whose collections are more valuable and whose just takes up space.....:D

Shot glasses.
Been collecting for a couple years, every time I go somewhere. Got close to 30-40 now.

My wife collects shot glasses also. I recently added a UT 2005 National Champs shot glass to her collection. :)

I don't know how unusual it is, but I collect old John Wayne Movies and odd sports memorabilia (i.e. Todd Helton's hat when he played with the Asheville Tourists, an autographed slide from the grand opening of the Palmer Course in San Antonio, etc.). Also, on the dorky side, I have a comic book collection.

A money pit....no actually, I started collecting in the 80's and finally cut myself off at Y2K. I probably have about 100 of the lighted pieces not to mention accessories.
My dad built a shelf that goes all the way around my daughter's room about 12" from the ceiling. The majority of the houses are up there (out of harms way) and on their own light switch. Looks pretty nice at night with just all of the houses lit up.
The thing is they retire pieces each year from the collection. The retired pieces gain value in the secondary market...not that I would sell any.:D The problem is if you are missing a piece that has retired....be prepared to pay dearly in order to acquire it. It is one of those things I enjoyed doing, but am equally relieved that I don't do any longer.:D

My step mother collected bells......after she had about 200 in there house, she now collects crosses. I actually would get her a bell from every country that I lived in that was unique to that country.
