For some history the Ivy League Schools which include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. ruled the college football Mythical National Championships (mcns) from 1883 to 1925. During those years the Ivy League schools won the mnc 33 times!! In fact Yale won the first two in 1883 and 1884.
There was talk that USC would be the first team to win three ncs this past year if they would beat Texas but did you know that Yale won the mncs three straight years from 1886 to 1888 with only one tie during those three years?! (There were no bowl games back then).
However beginning in 1924 Notre Dame and other schools such as Alabama, USC, Big 10 Schools, etc ended their dominance and a new era began but at one time the Ivy League ruled college football.
