How to be #1 in 3A

According to Old Card, WOS fans and the Jasper people its really pretty simple.. In fact WOS did it without even playing a game..

here is all you have to do..

1. Don't make the playoffs in 4A
2. Win state 17 years ago
3. Be ranked lower in most polls then 3A's top 3 teams from last year (Datapoll's power ranking for WOS:115.6, Datapoll's powerranking for Gainesville: 118.5 Burnet: 116.6 Atlanta: 118.4)
4. Have people from surrounding towns worship you
5. expect 3A to roll over for you

As you can see its an easy formula and just about any average team could do it..

I hope this helps a team like whitesboro out if they ever move down to 2A

I haven't seen one person from WO-S state that they'll have an easy time in 3A... Nor did I hear a Jasper fan do the same in '02... But YES, I did throw some fits...

See, the important thing is realizing just who your ticked off with... Is your reflex to snap at WO-S a result of a WO-S poster's comments? In this case, it can't be, unless you've seen something I totally missed...

Your reflex was caused by people who are not even fans of the Mustangs shouting that they're gunna win state or what have you... Now, do I think they'll winstate? Not 100% sure of it... Do I think they can win state? Ya damn right?

WO-S has tradition on their side (as do your Leapords) and a great bunch of talent coming back off of an 8-2 season playing one of the toughest schedules in the state... They're HC is some sort of a genius and from what I hear, they're coaching staff ticks well...

Saying they don't have what it takes would be rediculous, but saying they'll be the state champs in '04 is going a little far out in itself...

Now, I know there are teams out there in 3A right now that could play neck and neck if not beat WO-S, but I think at the same time WO-S can beat those teams... They'll have a dang good season if you ask me...

Just remember that your team is still the team to beat, Keith, along with Atlanta, and hopefully that'll help you get by until next season...

That's why I've decided to stop griping about it, the great WO-S Mustang fans know they're in for a tough one, and I'm pretty sure their team is... Let's just make sure we understand just who we're griping at before we lash out at a person or group of persons who haven't done anything deserving of a lashing...

The WO-S fans will come on here and talk about their tradition (as both you and I do) and how good of a team they have this year (as both you and I do) and that's okay, they're 3A now...

This bugged the crap outta me in '02 when Jasper rolled into town and it'll really screw with your head, don't let it, it'll be okay... We have a great team in our class now, be happy...

Although he's from "Orange" There is a large stretch of Highway 105 (Only about 1 mile from WOS High School and 7 miles from BCHS) that is actually Bridge City ISD. So, Just b/c he lives in Orange, doesn't mean his children did not attend BCISD.

Great post Gobbla! As a Mustang fan, I don't want all of this extra attention. Lofty expectations are nothing more than a distraction. Quite frankly, with the depth in 3A the way it is, no one has a clue who will be "great" or who will be "average". A lot of factors will play out before next season is over with. Everyone just needs to chill a bit.

They just graduated one mean nationally ranked lineman, and I hear they have many more coming up. Better watch out for them. It is a shame that we had forgotten about them. With just a little promotion, why we can get Silsbee up to at least the top 5 in 3a! :D

Question, if SE Texas opinions are so dumb, and they may be, then why are so many people getting so upset when we express those opinions? Go Silsbee go! :) Better watch out for Kirbyville also!

Being that he is from a rival school, he probably is not a FAN.Well in order for Bridge City to be a "rival" school for WOS...BC would need to have beaten you a couple of times. And I believe that WOS has whipped BC for years. That is kinda like calling Crandal a rival of Forney. :D

I look for WO-S to be exceptional in 3A next season. They say every war is fought over territory!...And WO-S is invading Kieth's and a lot of others territory! Now I am going to make a bold statement! After next season, I look for both Orangefield and Bridge City to have the capability to beat WO-S! Here is why--LC-M is strongly recruiting WO-S youth to play football there. WO-S school district is cratering on enrollment. Bridge City and Orangefield's Districts are growing rapidly. Dan Hooks plans to win State one more time(next season) and is then retiring(either way I would guess)....On further, OF has a great football development program just emerging. Also, Bridge City mauls everyone in football at the 9th grade level but loses these same kids as they specialize in a host of other sports to get college scholarships. I think that will turn around with the Junior and Sophomore classes....The demographics are changing and that is going to make a big difference in the coming years..... As for Gainesville they are just a big size 4A school mascurading as a 3A---just look at the size of that city!

Oldcard, I do agree with some of your post about the demographics in Orange. I just don't think it's going to happen in a year. Maybe 20, our "cratering" is occuring at a slow pace. Also, if we have sucess again in 3A, more athletes will be coming to WO-S. On the contrary, the ones leaving for mlc couldn't get playing time at WO-S, with the exception of 1, who I hear may be on his way back at the moment.

Since we are making predictions, I'll predict that WO-S and mlc combine way before mlc becomes dominant in football. Also, if you look at the stats over the last few years, mlc has actually been on the decline as well.

WOS JV was 6-1...why only 7 games?? and Gainesville is not a 4A school....when you speak of demographics Gainesville's population is shrinking if anything...lots of people from Gainesville have moved away down to Denton and closer to the Metroplex..but if anything Gainesville's enrollment has stayed fairly steady around 800 or so...
