Thanks for providing such a wonderful, meaningless thread to link to. Its funny though... seems like I have read somewhere that "real" boards don't have any "useless" posts. Oh well.

Psychologists have finally proven what regular people have known forever: Meetings are soul-sucking, spirit-crushing wastes of time.

"We propose that despite the fact that meetings may help to achieve work-related goals, having too many meetings and spending too much time in meetings per day may have negative effects on the individual," psychology professors Alexandra Luong and Steven G Rogelberg wrote in their report.

The study includes a history of meetings, with some startling discoveries. The shrinks learned that a 1973 study showed that more than half of a typical manager's workday was spent in meetings. And a 1987 study shows that meetings have been growing in both length and frequency.

The psychologists found that attending more and longer meetings just makes you a more miserable, useless person.

They put this to the test by having 37 volunteers keep a diary of their workday for a week.

Luong and Rogelberg wrote: "It is impressive that a general relationship between meeting load and the employee's level of fatigue and subjective workload was found."

The core of their of their findings (PDF) is that "the meeting (is) one more type of hassle or interruption that can occur for individuals."

Guess that depends on whose definition of "real board" we're being enlightened by, huh?:D Guy's got some BRASS, ya gotta give him that.

Funny thing, '66... people can make any definition they want... but it will be validated by others. Judging from the downlow's members, I would say we have a pretty good board.
