Texas played in the 2005 and 2006 Rose Bowl Games. Prior to that only one other team from the State of Texas played in the Rose Bowl. Name the team.

Very good! It was SMU! SMU lost to Stanford 7 to 0 in the 1936 Rose Bowl. SMU had a top team in 1935 and so did TCU and both played the last game of the season with the winner going to the Rose Bowl. TCU had Sammy Baugh as their QB who later went on to have a great pro career with Washington. In a well played game by both teams SMU won 20 to 14.

UT actually had a good chance to go to the Rose Bowl for the 1941 game. UT was ranked No. 1 in the country until they were tied by Baylor and lost to TCU. They were still the first choice of the Rose Bowl especially since Oregon State was to play with 2 loses. However UT had one more game with Oregon which had just barely lost to Oregon State 12 to 7 the week before. But ironically UT had one last season game against Oregon and the Rose Bowl people didn't want UT to go in with another loss so they told UT if they cancelled the game with Oregon they would get the Rose Bowl invite. UT felt it was only honorable to play the scheduled game and refused so the Rose Bowl chose Duke to play Oregon State. UT played Oregon and probably the Rose Bowl and Oregon State were relieved that UT didn't come because UT beat Oregon 71 to 7 showing the Rose Bowl didn't choose the best team. Oregon State beat Duke in the Rose Bowl 20 to 16 but had UT played it would have probably been one o f the most one sided games ever played with UT winning probably 60 to 7. The game between UT and Oregon was played on Dec. 6, 1941. The bombing of Pearl Harbor took place the next day and football took a back seat to the Country's concerns.

Sammy also attended Newman High School, which when the new high school was built was changed to Sweetwater High School.
