im trying to get a year on the knife i bought at an old hardware store approx. 1992. but since ive been doing research, i found it might have been made in the late '70s (even though i bought it new in box in '92. it is a Case 6165-L SAB SSP (folding lock blade w/ wood handle). i found out what all the numbers and letters mean but im not sure about the date. on the blade under the word "Case" is 1 dot. i know that is how they dated them, but im not sure what the single dot represents.

I wouldn't give up yet 44, it's like you say there is a lot of experience on this board, so you might still get an answer.

My boss is a knife collector. As soon as I wake up more, I will let you know the company he uses.

They might be able to help you!

I did a google search, and I found this site...You probably already looked at it though.

Knife (http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/price_guide/wr_case_xx/knives-65.php)

I'd say by the looks of this, yours was made in 1977.

One of my close friends sells knives on E-BAY for extra cash. If anybody can tell me who it is, it'll be him. I'll give him a ring and see what I can find out for ya.
