Finally we don't have to walk on egg-shells with this subject...

I'd like to start off by saying I'm really upset about this... Everything looked to be going great for this program and for the Roarks...

It's a sad day in Raider land...

From The Colorado County Citizen

Rice High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Russell E. Roark was arrested Saturday, Oct. 4 for two felony warrants issued by the Wharton Police Department.

Colorado County Sheriff R.H. "Curly" Wied reports he and two deputies arrested Roark at his residence in Altair at 12:45 a.m. after receiving two warrant service requests; one for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first degree felony and one for evading arrest, a state jail felony.

Wied reported, Roark was cooperative when arrested and taken to the Colorado County Detention Center in Columbus. He was magistrated by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Dodie Dungen at 1:40 a.m. and released on two $25,000 bonds.

According to WPD Chief Timothy Guin, a citizen complained to police, Friday night at the Wharton High School football game in Wharton, that a group of men were consuming alcohol in the parking lot during half-time. At 9:30 p.m. WPD Officer Randall Whitlock spoke to Roark, who was sitting in his vehicle with two other Rice High School coaches and a Bellville ISD coach. Guin said Roark put his vehicle in gear and began driving away with Officer Whitlock on the running board. Whitlock had to jump off the vehicle when Roark continued driving away.

Rice Consolidated ISD Super-intendent Dr. Richard Gott said Roark has not been suspended or dismissed and the district is reviewing the case for a determination this week.

"We are interviewing and will review this to see if any district policies have been broken. This is so out of character for Coach Roark. He has been a great role model for our kids," Gott said.

If convicted Roark, who has no prior arrests, could face a sentence of two to 99 years or life imprisonment and a fine of up to $10,000

What an absolute travesty. A monumental mistake for a monumental coach. Funny how things can change so fast isn't it? One minute you are on top of the world- the next...

My prayers are with the entire school system and the kids and families this affects.
