WO-S Home to Top Junior

Earl Thomas isn't blazing fast or the biggest player on the field, but he is a football player, plain and simple. Whatever Thomas is called upon to do, he does it well and with a physical presence that most 5-foot-10, 175-pound players don't possess. When one watches the Mustangs play, they may see Thomas lined up at running back, wide receiver, cornerback or returning kicks. Thomas made game changing plays from every position he lined up at during his junior season.

Earl Thomas is already on the radars of several schools.
The Mustangs, who finished 12-1, got their season going on a positive note when they beat old rival Jasper. Thomas played the entire game at cornerback and played most of the game at running back in the win. He did most of his damage on defense, registering three pass break ups and several hard hits coming up from his cornerback position. Offensively, Thomas rushed for 73 yards on 19 carries against a very good Jasper defense. That was only the start for the talented junior.

West Orange-Stark breezed through the regular season going 9-0 after potentially having its season ended due to Hurricane Rita. Thomas played in eight of the nine regular season games, finishing the regular season with 479 yards rushing, three interceptions and nine touchdowns.

Thomas took his game to another level in the playoffs. In their opening round win over Huffman, who ended the Mustangs season the year before, Thomas rushed for 111 yards on 10 carries. He scored on a 45-yard run in the game and also added a catch for 15 yards.

The Mustangs next game was against a very good Palestine team that proved to be no match for the Mustangs. In a 42-13 win, Thomas rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries. He scored on a 59-yard run in the win.

Next up was Giddings and Thomas was dominant. He rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns both from four yards out. He added a catch for 41 yards and an interception on defense.

The Mustangs' final game of the year was the following Friday at Rhodes Stadium in Katy against a very physical Wimberley Texans team. Thomas got the Mustangs going with a 14-yard TD run to open the scoring. He added a 42-yard run later in the half. Wimberley grabbed the lead and held it forcing the Mustangs into passing situations the entire second half. All Thomas did was catch six passes for 80 yards; including two big third down catches to keep scoring drives alive. Thomas finished the game with 82 yards rushing on 10 carries to go with six catches for 80 yards. Throw in two pass break ups and it was solid effort in defeat.

Thomas finished the season with 892 yards rushing on 132 attempts and 12 touchdowns. He added 17 catches for 309 yards and two more scores. Throw in a 92-yard kick off for a score and four interceptions and Thomas enjoyed a very good junior season.

Thomas lists the Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Tech Red Raiders as the early favorites for his signature. Look for more on Thomas in the near future.

wosfan1 tends to get carried away in his unbridled enthusiasm for WO-S. Earl Thomas should certainly be ONE of the top juniors in the state, but I wouldn't consider him THE top junior.

I thought the actual title of the article written on OrangeBloods.com was "WOS Home to Top Junior." Either way, he has a lot of talent and should get lots of looks this year. For anyone who watched WOS this year, he was #12 for the Mustangs.
