Doug Flutie added another oddity to his football resume on Sunday when he converted a drop kick in the fourth quarter of the New England Patriots' game against the Miami Dolphins.

With starting quarterback Tom Brady sitting out most of the season-ending game, backup Matt Cassel threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tim Dwight to cut Miami's lead to 25-19 with 6:10 left in the game. Flutie, who was listed as the No. 3 QB, came in for the extra point and lined up at quarterback.

After a timeout, Flutie took the snap, dropped the ball and kicked it off a short hop through the uprights for one point. He ran off the field and embraced coach Bill Belichick.

According to the Hall of Fame site, Chicago's Ray "Scooter" McLean converted the last drop kick in the Bears' 37-9 victory over the New York Giants on Dec. 21, 1941.

Couldn't have happened to a better man than Flutie. The guy has had to prove himself since his days in college. Probably the best QB under 6 ft. tall since Joe Thiesman.

That was definitely one of the coolest things ive ever seen. I had no idea that was even legal! Leave it to Flutie to do something like that, he's just a magician.

My brother and I use to practice drop kicking over the barn. We got pretty good at it. Yes it is still legal in high school, college, and pros. as far as I have heard.

It was great! Now we need to get someone to do it for a three point field goal though.

Except for The Longest Yard, the drop-kick was something that I had read about, but never thought I would actually see.
The fact that Flutie proved that in 2006, it can still be pulled off, makes it a truly awsome feat.

I believe Flutie could have put together Hall of Fame numbers, if he had been given the chance to do so. As it is, unfortunately, he will probably just have to visit it, like the rest of us, to ever be in it.
Too bad though, he is a great QB, and seems to be a good guy!
Over acheiver = Doug Flutie!
