Lady Stangs advance to semis
BIG LAKE - The Sweet-water girls defeated Grape Creek, 44-28, on Thursday to reach today's champion-ship semifinals of the Mary Tatum Holiday Classic bas-ketball tournament.
Led by Tracy Cowin's 14 points and Tika Smith's 10 points and team-high 13 re-bounds, the Lady Mustangs (14-15) advanced to play Coahoma this morning. The winner of that game will play for the tournament championship at 6 p.m. today, while the loser has a third-place game that tips off at 3 p.m.
Also enjoying a big game Thursday was Kaitlin Law-rence with eight points and nine rebounds, while Dacy Ivy and Blayre Hatley each scored five points and Hat-ley also had six assists and three steals to share team honors with Smith and Vi-viana Castillo. Leigh Ann Sims scored two points for Sweetwater, which led 21-16 at halftime.
