This movie was made in 1954 and is a great disaster movie. It was just put on dvd last summer and was out of circulation on tv for years. In fact 1979 was the last time it was shown on tv. This is a great movie and should not be missed. It is on a Monday Morning but many of you will be off for Martin Luther King Day. It will be on from 9:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. If you can't watch it set your recorders to see this classic. This movie won the music oscar (by Dimitri Tiomkin). Oscar nominations went to Clair Trevor and Jan Sterling. But the whole cast is great and the story is magnificient. The movie also stars John Wayne, Robert Stack and David Brian among others. Wayne plays a washed up co-pilot who lost his wife and son years before in an airplane crash. The movie deals with a commercial airliner that developes engine problems on a trans-Pacific Flight and starts to lose fuel. There are many character studies and flashbacks in this movie but ultimately it is Wayne's character who keeps his cool and keeps everyone in line. And if you have never heard Wayne's famous whistling tune well this is your chance.
Another hard to get and see movie is "Island in the Sky" with John Wayne and hopefully we will get to see that again soon.
This is a great movie which was made during the same year as Dawn and Socorro so that was a great year for movies indeed. This movie is also in color. A treat indeed!

Another interesting trivia part of this movie was that John Wayne brought the production rights to the movie but only wanted to produce it. His role was originally offered to Spencer Tracey who wanted to do it but due to his schedule had to turn it down. So Wayne took the role and did a great job indeed.
