A couple of us were talking over lunch about the best all-time college football coaches. I'm an "old timer" who goes back to the old SWC days so my list went something like this:

Darryl Royal - Texas
"Bear" Bryant- Alabama
Bud Wilkinson- Oklahoma
Frank Broyles- Arkansas
Joe Paterno- Penn State
Bo Schembechler - Michigan
Bob Devaney - Nebraska

These coaches were not only very successful on the field---they were great men who were leaders off the field, also.

Tom Osborn--also at Nebraska

Really turned that team into a powerhouse. Plus I believe he's a state rep there now.

Lou Holtz - ND/South Carolina
Bobby Bowden - Florida State
St Johns Coach - Can't think of his name.

I guess that puts Barry Switzer out of the running.
