These are the Sweetwater Youth Football League Mitey Mite Mustangs (ages 7 & 8)exiting the VARSITY tunnel for the 2005 Big Country Youth Football Superbowl Championship game against Abilene's Raiders (primarily Wylie kids.) *The "HOSS" not in uniform (#44) is mine. (He was on the 9 & 10 year olds' Junior Pee Wee team this year.) The Mitey Mites went on to win the Superbowl 6-0. Look out for the Mustangs here in about 7 or 8 years....

The boys loved it...even the ones who "wiped out"...ha ha! They had a jam box inside the tunnel playing "We Will Rock You" and they were quite fired up. As soon as I can get it working again, I plan to put a few more pics from that game...

The Raiders are made up of kids from Wylie, Madison, and Clack. When I coached the 10-12 yr olds we only had 7 or 8 Wylie kids.

Actually, this picture is what this thread is all about...the WINNING TRADITION OF SWEETWATER FOOTBALL, now and for years to come. There may be "stumbling, bumbling, and falling," but our boys will rise back up and go on to win.
Presenting the 2005 Big Country Youth Football Superbowl Champions...the Sweetwater Mustangs...http://x12.putfile.com/12/35515111720.jpg
*As a footnote...the last time our Mitey Mites (7 & 8 year olds) went to the Superbowl was when Skye Green, Joseph Banyard, Jeffery Straley, James Beckwith, -and a few others- were on that team. Our Winning Traditions and Mustang Pride starts young. The current freshman team, including Rufus McCann and Brandon Bugarin (starters on varsity) won the Pee Wee (11 & 12 year olds) Championship in 2002.

Terrific pictures!

Here in Tatum, we have a Homecoming tradition of pairing up every kindergarten boy with a varsity player. The kids come charging out of the tunnel, fall down, run down the field, fall over, line up, fall down, and do some jumping jacks. Then they fall down. I've seen it every year since I've been teaching here. It never gets old. This year, my son had his very own Mini-me.
He loved it. We start 'em young so we can hold on longer.

Your kids and ours get to grow up with that tucked into their hearts. No wonder they're all so great!

Oddly enough Kenneth's nickname was Peanut. He was All State Offense and Defense in 4A - Tailback and Free Safety. If you made a short list of Sweetwater athletes in the last 20 years with the most God given football talent - he'd be on it. I will say that watching Joseph Banyard run the ball reminds me a lot of Kenneth - mostly the way he puts his head down and runs over potential tacklers.

Skye's mother (Brenda Starling) ran track and played Basketball she graduated in 83. And if I'm not mistaken his father was a big track star as well.

What is funny is Elmer is the only Green I actually know. A few
times Skye broke one open and I started screaming "Go Elmer"...
Then, thoroughly embarrassed...looked around to see if anyone
noticed my faux pas...I too went to school with Elmer.

05-06 Varsity should take it if they can beef up those lineman...............it does take all 11 and balance to win in the playoffs.........a fast guy or two in the backfield won't get you far after district............hit those weights guys!

I hope those boys coming up learn that there is a difference in being big and being big..........eating habits you learn in the fifth and sixth grade will determine how well you perform later in Varsity years. If your 5'8 and 200lb with 12% body fat like Brandon Fangman or Justin Adames you will be a killer. If you are 5'8 and 200lb with 30% fat with no muscle and rolls of gut then plan on being physically exhausted at half time. I observe youngsters everywhere I go talking and dreaming about being a future football star with gummy bears in one hand and a cola in the other..........parents if you want to help full fill your kids dreams make the sacrifices now. It is not baby fat in the sixth grade! Cheers to the all the Stangs and future Stangs.

Okay, I have to clarify why all those boys are piled up on the ground in this picture. It seems one of the parents stepped in front of the boys on accident and caused a pile up. I laugh everytime I see this picture. My son was one of the ones on the ground. We have this pictured framed along with a few other ones taken that day. It is a memory those boys and their parents will never forget.
