TONIGHT

(BTW I went to this game last year, UNT & USM)

New Orleans Bowl
8 p.m. ET, Lafayette, LA
Southern Miss (6-5) vs. Arkansas State (6-5)

Best Indian Bowl Moment – You’re witnessing it. Arkansas State climbed from the back of the Sun Belt pack this year to snap North Texas’ death grip on the conference title and earn the league’s lone automatic bowl berth. If you set aside the 1970 Pecan Bowl, when the program was playing in I-AA, the Indians will finally be breaking the seal on their bowl history.

Best Eagle Bowl Moment – TCU entered the 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl with the nation’s No. 1 defense, No. 1 rusher in LaDainian Tomlinson, and a pristine 10-1 record. They left the Heart of Dixie with their second blemish. Southern Miss rallied in the fourth quarter, and stunned the Frogs 28-21 when Jeff Kelly found Kenneth Johnson for the game-winning touchdown with eight seconds left in the game.

USM's best win ... Oct. 15, Southern Miss 52 ... UCF 31
UCF turned it over five times in the first half and Southern Miss took advantage with 42 first half points. Dustin Almond threw five touchdown passes, with two to Antwon Courington and two to Chris Johnson, and ran for another. UCF got two touchdown catches from Mike Walker and scored the final 14 points of the game helped by a touchdown pass and a scoring run from Kyle Israel.

USM's worst loss ... Nov. 19, Memphis 24 ... Southern Miss 22
Memphis got up 24-9 in the fourth quarter on two DeAngelo Williams touchdown runs and a one-yard Maurice Avery sneak, but Southern Miss roared back in the final half of the fourth with two Dustin Almond touchdown passes. Cody Hull's two point conversion attempt was stuffed at the one. Memphis outgained Southern Miss 263 yards to 94 on the ground.

Arkansas State's best win ... Oct. 13, Arkansas State 39 ... UL Lafayette 36
UL Lafayette ran for 457 yards, but it wasn't enough as ASU won on a 35-yard Eric Neihouse field goal on the final play of the game to cap a 44-yard drive in :44 for the win. ULL got up 29-14 helped by touchdown runs from four different Ragin' Cajuns, but Shermar Bracey and Nick Noce took over with Bracey scoring twice and Noce throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for another as the Indians made a fourth quarter comeback. In a losing cause, ULL QB Michael Desormeaux rolled up 174 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Arkansas State's worst loss ... Nov. 5, MTSU 45 ... Arkansas State 7
MTSU cranked out the first 45 points of the game as Clint Marks threw three touchdown passes with two scoring passes in the 24-point second quarter on the way to the easy win. Eugene Gross ran for two short scores, while the defense held the ASU ground game to only 146 yards.
