how far south do people consider east texas? would the golden triangle be east texas (beaumont) what about Houston? I know we are considered east texas in jasper.

Movies and TV shows don't get made about this part of the state because piney woods and bayous are not what people all over the world think of when "Texas" is mentioned. We just don't fit the stereotype.

I work with a guy who moved here from Missouri who has identified ET as "Deliverance" country.

We are step-children to those northern east texans at best 89JDAWG. Jasper is about as East Texas as you can get, but I guess to those NE Texas guys we are SE Texans.

I definitely consider Jasper to be in East Texas. I think there are a couple of reasons you are ignored up north. You are not in Region II and so obviously you are not in a district of that region either. Plus, you don't generally go north in your predistrict games, so you are more associated with the Beaumont-Port Arthur area in our minds, even though it's a pretty good drive from Jasper down to the Golden Triangle.
