IRVING – Lennon Creer rushed for 153 yards and scored the winning touchdown with 2:43 remaining as Tatum beat Hutto 38-34 to win the Class 3A Division II championship Saturday night.

Hutto drove to the Tatum 31-yard line in the closing seconds, but quarterback Jeremy Kerley was sacked on the final two plays as Tatum (15-0) held on for its first state championship.

Shiloh Wampler led all rushers with 197 yards on 27 carries and had touchdowns of 51, 41 and 21 yards for Hutto (13-3).

Hutto went ahead 34-31 with 7:29 left when Jerrick Gauthier ran 21 yards for a touchdown on fourth-and-4 and Kerley converted a two-point conversion. Gauthier, who had a 10-yard touchdown in the first half, finished with 82 yards on 11 carries.

Tatum's ensuing drive ended with Creer's go-ahead score, a 1-yard plunge.

Tatum quarterback Cashas Pollard threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Darnius Moore in the corner of the end zone to give Tatum a 31-25 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Pollard was 4-of-9 for 93 yards with one interception and two touchdowns, while Kerley completed just two of 10 passes for 36 yards with an interception.

The teams combined for 21 points in the final 52 seconds of the first half, which ended with Tatum ahead 25-19.

Wampler's 41-yard touchdown run with 52 seconds left was the third Hutto touchdown of the first half, but Hutto's lead was just 19-10 after Jose Diaz's second missed extra point. Tatum answered with an 88-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Moore.

Hutto's Cass Slover fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Tatum needed three plays to score from the Hutto 31. Pollard threw an 18-yard touchdown to Carson Blackmon, and Creer scored on the two-point conversion.

Blackmon also had an interception, and he threw a touchdown on a wide receiver reverse.
