MONT BELVIEU — From the opening bucket of the night to the final shot of the second quarter, Friday night belonged to Mason Fisher. The talented Barbers Hill junior scored 22 first-half points and 30 on the night, pacing the Eagles to a 72-55 victory over Sterling in a game that wasn’t that close.

Fisher opened the night by stealing an errant RSS pass at midcourt and going in for a one-handed jam. Moments later he banked in a 3-pointer, followed by a driving layup. By the time he ended the onslaught, Fisher had 11 of Barbers Hill’s first 13 points as the Eagles led 13-0.

Fisher ended the half by hitting another 3-pointer at the buzzer, as Barbers Hill (10-3) led 44-13 at intermission.

“He (Fisher) was due to have a great game,” said Barbers Hill coach Nathan Toone. “He had a great night offensively, but his defense was good too.

“We wanted to get off to a good start, especially since we were at home, and build some confidence.”

On the opposite of the confidence spectrum was Sterling. The Rangers made just 1-of-9 shots in the first quarter, that coming with 20 seconds left in the first quarter on a Manasah Davis jumper. Until that point, RSS had managed only three free throws and trailed 14-3.

Down by 10 points early in the second quarter at 19-9, it appeared as if Sterling might have a chance to get back into the game. But Barbers Hill went on a 25-4 run over the final 5:36 to effectively put the game out of reach.

Fisher scored 10 points in the run, while Pat Cook had six points. Back-to-back treys by Fisher and Cook capped a 16-0 run, before Sterling’s Mario Louis scored in the paint to break the RSS drought at the 2:55 mark of the second quarter. Louis’s bucket also put the Rangers in doubles figures in the game as they trailed at that point, 37-11.

Louis had his best outing of the year, finishing with 25 points, including 19 in the second half. He had nine points in the fourth quarter when Sterling trimmed a 25-point Barbers Hill lead to 16.

The Eagles sloppiness also contributed to the comeback, as the hosts committed eight turnovers in the final frame.

“When we got such a big lead we lost some of our energy,” Toone said. “But we started the game with a lot of energy. The kids were fired up and really excited to get to play these guys.”

Some of that energy was evident in the first quarter, when Louis and Barber’s Hill’s Adam Aycock had to be separated after squaring off after going for a rebound. Sterling’s Max Blacklock was ejected during the incident for leaving the bench.

In addition to Fisher, Michael Davis reached double figures for the Eagles with 12 points.

After Louis with 25, Davis had seven, and Derrick Thompson and Adrian Fontenot had six each.

Sounds good I haven't seen them play yet but I know most of the guys playing. They have a good team this year hopefully that new coach can keep them in line.
