I remember the talk in SA two weeks before the end of the regular season and Judson was talking about at 4-4 they needed to beat to good teams to advance to the playoffs. But the mood then was that everyone was worried Converse might have it's first losing season in forever. Converse not only makes the playoffs but advances all the way to the state title game. A good story nontheless and one worthy of considerable coverage. What's funny is their opponent in the title game draws me to an even better story. Euless Trinity, what can you say? For anyone who has seen "The Haka" performed from High School Extra to other media outlets it's hard not to be fascinated. After reading about the history of the "Haka" and how many of the team is actually of Tongan descent I was intrigued. The SA Express News mentioned that over 30% of the team is of Tongan descent. Amazing at the least. The Haka was used for many reasons to bring team unity in rugby play. Considering how much of the team is actually of this direct relation is doubly amazing. As good as many Texas high schools had stories worthy of film I think this would make a great movie. But alas I'm not a film producer so I doubt it would happen. Trinity had been blown out by Converse the last time these teams had met in a state championship game. They didn't fold this time around even though they could have.
