View Full Version : All-Time Region Champions in 3A (Today's interesting tidbit)

You see listings of all-time State Championship games all over the place but what you never see is the region champs for each year.... the following is simply the region champs of all 4 regions in each playoff bracket over the years back to when the 5 Classification system was first set up in 1951.

1980-2005 lists 3A winners
1951-1979 lists 2A winners (which was the equivalent of 3A at the time)

State Champs in blue
Runner-up in red

Region I - 12 State Champs - 25 State Finalists Total
Region II - 25 State Champs - 38 State Finalists Total
Region III - 12 State Champs - 30 State Finalists Total
Region IV - 14 State Champs - 33 State Finalists Total

Very interesting, but with the change in classifications, it is a little confusing. In 1984, 1985, and 1991 Sweetwater was regional champ, but we were classified as 4A then. We lost to Denison in the semi final game in 1984, won state against Tomball in 1985, and lost to Carthage in the semi final in 1991.

and everyone says those East Texas boys can't play. Those numbers prove otherwise from what I can tell.

Every year sense droping from 4a we have either been region I champs or lost to the eventual region I champs.

In OLD CARDINAL'S absence, I will go ahead and make the point for everyone to notice just exactly how dominate Region III has been over the years!:nerd:

Yeah, but you gotta agree they were certainly DOMINATE while putting up those numbers!:D
