Possibly the upset of the playoffs thus far, at least in 4A. OK, I'm a little biased.

WAY TO GO CATS!!! YOU DID IT!!!

Calallen vs. Lewisville Hebron for the 4A DII title next weekend.
Whomever wins, we'll have first time state champ!

Congrats to Calallen. I have to say they are my sentimental favorites. They always go deep, but have never brought the gold home. Good Luck next week!

saw them played against GP and they didnt look to sharp in the first Quarter in that game, but once they got rolling they have some very good players that can take over a game

So this got me thinking, teams in the CC districts always seem to make to the Semis. We've done really well in R4, but never can seem to get over that R3 hump. So I did a little research and here's a list of Semifinal appearances.

(By CC districts, I mean districts that have teams within a 20-mile radius of Corpus. Usually entails one 1A district, one or two 2A districts (depending on alignment), one or two 3A districts, one 4A district [except the years G-P and Rockport were in the Beeville/SA district], and one 5A district.)

CLASS 4A

CALALLEN
2005
Semis- beat Brenham, 31-17
Finals- vs. Lewisville Hebron
2003
Semis- lost to Bay City, 23-21
2000
Semis- lost to WO-S, 27-21
1997
Semis- lost to LaMarque, 33-31
1996
Semis- lost to LaMarque, 36-14
1995
Semis- lost to LaMarque, 32-21
1994
Semis- lost to LaMarque, 24-21
1993
Semis- lost to LaMarque, 13-3

GREGORY-PORTLAND
2002
Semis- lost to Brenham 35-7
1992
Semis- lost to A&M Consolidated 37-27
1989
Semis- lost to A&M Consolidated 43-17
1984
Semis- lost to Tomball 48-7

ALICE
1999
Semis- lost to Texas City 45-0
1998
Semis- lost to Bay City 20-17

CLASS 3A

ARANSAS PASS
1998
Semis- lost to Newton 29-15

MATHIS
1999
Semis- beat Gatesville 19-14
Finals- lost to Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 49-6

SINTON
2001
Semis- beat Bridge City 38-0
Finals- lost to Everman 25-14
1990
Semis- lost to Crockett 15-14

CLASS 2A

REFUGIO
2000
Semis- lost to Mart 21-20
1999
Semis- lost to Elysian Fields 14-13
1995
Semis- lost to Alto 14-7
1988
Semis- lost to Corrigan-Camden 23-17
1987
Semis- beat Groveton on penetrations (0-0 Final)
Finals- lost to Lorena 8-7
1982***(Championship year- they were in 3A)
Semis- beat Navasota 28-0
Finals- beat Littlefield 22-21

So we haven't had much success in 5A or 1A, but we'be done alright everywhere else. On a side note, CC Carroll had the last great 5A team from the area back in '91. Try to follow me here... The Tigers were edged out by Judson 45-42 in the Quarterfinals, who was edged out by Stafford Dulles 27-26 in the Semis, who was edged out by Killeen 14-10 in the Finals.

I know, it's not a ring, but it's something to brag about.... and here's the tally since '82:

24 Semifinals appearances
5 Finals appearances (including next week)
1 Championship

Always the bridesmaid. Below is the year-by-year breakdown.

Speaking of having no class, you guys should check out the THSF message board and read some the Brenham posts. I have never seen a school make up so many excuses for a loss. Their season is done and they are still trying to put Calallen down. Best of luck to the Wildcats next week.

I drove from Houston down to Vic to watch Calallen win and they did. Brenham came in the game over confident they thought they had the win, their fans were over confident to. At half time they had a X-MAS show where they pulled santa on a sled and they pulled a banner that read we want a win, I thought they needed a basketball instead.

Duke is a great QB who was very relaxed on the field, and #3 was pretty darn good. The line was getting alot of attention from the announcers I never seen that, they have what it takes to win state.

I'm not surprised at some of the Brenham comments. What are they going to do? Congratulate us? They were mocking us all week. Not all of them, might I add, but a select few. We totally crushed them in the 4th qtr., which is usually our downfall in the semis. I wasn't at the game, but a friend of mine who was said that after the Cubs scored on the first play of the game, they were acting like they'd won already, like they were just waiting for us to fold. That's just not going to happen. This team is a perfect example of why I never put any credence into polls. If our team had listened to the armchair prognosticators, we'd have been home 3 weeks ago. Someone mentioned our line...we have an O-lineman named Paul Flores who weighs 180 lbs. That is not a typo. A buck eighty. His heart is at least twice that big. He's just been shutting down the best D-linemen in the state during these playoffs. His nickname is "Paul Wall." Classic...I don't know if I'll make the game next week, but if I don't i'll just be pacing and going out of my mind. This is freaking awesome!

I hope you can make it...it'd be a shame to miss it. :( I can't remember, but I think they air this game. I know they'll air the 5A Div II championship game, but I'm pretty sure they aired the 4A Div II game too the last couple of years. There is a time conflict with SLC kicking off at Noon and Cal at 1pm so ??? who knows? Keep an eye on your tv guide...If aired it'll be on FSN.
