DCTF announces Players of the Year (http://www.texasfootball.com/index.php?s=&url_channel_id=33&url_article_id=560&url_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2)

12/09/2005 -

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football today announced the winners for its 2005 Campbell’s Chunky Chili Texas High School Football Players of the Year for each classification of UIL football and one for private schools.

2005 CAMPBELL’S CHUNKY CHILI PLAYERS OF THE YEAR:

Class 5A: Dimitri Nance, RB, Euless Trinity
Class 4A: Matthew Stafford, QB, Highland Park
Class 3A: Deon Beasley, QB/DB, West Orange-Stark
Class 2A: Jessie Harrison, RB/LB, Omaha Paul Pewitt
Class 1A: Deroderick Strickland, QB, Big Sandy
Six-Man: Bryce Hogue, RB/DB, Throckmorton
Private Schools: Wesley Oglesby, OL/DL, Arlington Grace Prep

Nance, the 5A winner, has rushed for more than 3,000 yards this seaon in leading Euless Trinity to the 5A DI title game this weekend. He's a verbal commitment to Arizona State.

The award winner in 4A, Stafford, has his team in the title game after passing for 3,798 yards and 37 TDs this season. He's pledged to Georgia and plans to enroll in January.

Beasley started the season as a DCTF Coverboy and ends his season the award winner in 3A. The UT commit rushed for more than 1,400 yards and came just shy of 2,000 yards passing.

Harrison, the winner in Class 2A, has rushed for more than 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. This year, he has over 100 tackles again, plus nearly 10 sacks and double-figure tackles for a loss. He and Pewitt are in the state semifinals this weekend.

Strickland, the winner in 1A, has more than 3,100 yards of offense so far, and he's playing in a state semifinal tomorrow. He's added over 75 tackles on defense.

Hogue has done a lot of it all for Throckmorton, helping him win the award for six-man. He has over 2,000 yards rushing and 41 TDs, as well as 14 INTs on defense.

And our private school winner, like Beasley in 3A, was a DCTF Coverboy. Oglesby had 76 tackles, 20 TFL, 11 sacks and 17 hurries on defense in leading his team to the state championship. He also punted, averaging 37 yards per boot, and didn't give up a sack on the offensive line.

Since 1972, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine has presented the Player of the Year Awards, which recognize the state’s top senior player in each classification.

In the coming weeks, representatives of Campbell’s Chunky Chili and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football will present a scholarship to the recipients of the Players of the Year. Additionally, each winner will be featured in the 2006 edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

That Michael Buse (sp?) from Wimberley should have been the MVP of the South after the game I watched against WOS.

Buse looked great that game, no doubt, but Beasley was just awesome all season long against everyone WOS played. He was a tremendous player, and well-deserving of the honor.
