If you can't watch it set your recorders. This may be your last chance for a while so be alert. TCM sometimes goes for many months before it is shown again.

All of the cast in the movie is good but two of the best are Edgar Buchannan and Alex Nicol. Buchannan should have got best supporting actor consideration and wide acclaim for his great role as the sheriff of Socorro. He brings humor to the movie but also shows that he is a very capable sheriff.
The other actor who should have been nominated and won best supporting actor in that movie is Alex Nicol who plays Jimmy Rapp - a gunfighter with a strange sense of honor. He finally forces the hero into a final showdown near the end of the movie. Many people also thought he should have won a Noble Peace Prize for his role according to some in the aol chat rooms.

Piper Laurie stars as Rannah Hayes in this movie. This was one of her earliest movies. She was nominated for best actress for The Hustler with Paul Newman and George C. Scott. She also was nominated for best supporting actress twice for Carrie in 1976 and Children of a Lessor God in 1986. This movie gives you a chance to see the 22 year old Piper Laurie. Don't miss it!!

Rory Calhoun the star of Dawn at Socorro had a distinguished career and made many great movies. He is great as Brett Wade in Dawn at Socorro as the gunfighter who wants to hang up his guns and retire to Colorado. He also made many good movies among which are 1954's River of No Return with Robert Mitchum and Marilyn Monroe, 1955's The Spoilers with Jeff Chandler, 1957's The Hired Gun with Chuck Conners, 1958's The Saga of Hemp Brown. He also starred in the great tv series The Texan from 1958 - 60.

No problem at all. Remember I am a good GodFather. :) I originally used Phil C on one of my computers. I had to use PhiI C on my other computer because I didn't know how to log on the second one with Phil C. It wouldn't let me register Phil C on the second computer because of the different email address hence I had to make a variation. It is due to my ignorance of computers. Remember Bill is Phil C is PhiI C is the Sinton GodFather. :)

The first part of this movie is loosely based on the gunfight at the OK Corral.

Lee Van Cleff plays one of the villians that has a shootout with Rory Calhoun in about the middle of the movie. He appeared in many movies and probably the most famous two were with Clint Eastwood in The Good, Bad and Ugly and For a Few Dollars More. His first movie was as one of the four gunmen that went against Gary Cooper in High Noon.

Besides great acting and a great plot this movie also has great musical background. Also the setting is in New Mexico and the scenery is beautiful as you will see in the middle of the movie when they ride the stagecoach to Socorro.

I TiVo'd it a few weeks back and finally watched it yesterday. It is a good Western. And Piper Laurie was beautiful when she was young.

Hey Maroon how did you like Alex Nicol's performance as Jimmy Rapp - the gunfighter with a strange sense of honor - who forces Rory Calhoun into a final showdown?
