I have a friend whose best friend is over there...he said those "bugs" will chase after you across the hot desert sand to stand in your shadow!!

He also said you can go in the "huts" where families live and look up in the corner and see those bugs hiding up there in the shade!!

Talking about it is just giving me the CREEPS!!!!

If you look to the right of the screen, you will see that he is holding the "bug" by his hand. My guess is the photographer wanted to test the abilities of the American people to see things in a broader aspect...or maybe everyone knew that.:D

There are actually two of the creatures in the photo. One is attached to the other. I believe they are called Camel Spiders.

Yeah they are Camel Spiders. Technically they are not spiders though...a few reasons that show up in the picture.

we had those in afghanistan too, they can get pretty big. they are non toxic, but do release a numbing agent when they bite so its kinda goes almost unnoticed whatever is being biten. i have some pics ofa few that i killed while i was over there. ill post them when i get off work. these things are mean, but for the most part very stupid and clumbsy. they are called camle spiders because they burrow into a camels stomach, then lay eggs, which then hatch and eat the camel. hope this wasnt too graphic for some.

Those things are just "nasty".... the following from truthorfiction.com.......

Camel Spiders in the Gulf-Truth! But It's a Close-up!

We haven't tracked down exactly who took this picture or when and where, but the chances are good that it's authentic.
Camel spiders are real, are large, and are in the Middle East including Iraq.
They don't get as big as a man's leg, however, as appears in this picture.
The photo, if authentic, was taken at close range as is indicated by the hand and cuff of the soldier that are visible in the upper right.
Also, it appears to be a picture of two spiders.
Some pictures of camel spiders first came from soldiers headed for Iraq but who encountered them in Kuwait.
There are some urban legends about camel spiders that claim they scream when they run, that they can run as fast as 25 miles-per-hour, and that they climb onto the undersides of camels and eat their stomachs.
According to the experts we've consulted, they do not make any noise, they do run very fast but not 25 miles-per-hour, they are primarily nocturnal, they do not eat camel stomachs, and their bite can sting or produce numbness, but is not lethal.

here is one that me and a buddy played a prank on someone with who was deathly affraid of thse things. its obviosuly dead. but we put it in a pose so it looked ready to jump on someone. she didnt talk to us for about 3 days. it was so funny. this next image is the same camel spider very shortly after i stepped on it, infact, i think it still has its guts hangin out the side of its back end.

I saw those things while I was over there. They have really large claws on them....kind of like a crawfish looking claw. They hang on the underbelly of the camels.....hence the name.

I also saw some kind of reptile looking thing over in Kuwait right before we invaded Iraq. It looked like a small dinosaur or a lizard. It crawled in this hole and once he did there was no way you were getting him out. However, it was cool to see.
