I finally got my first buck today, after my terrible shooting display a few days ago. I think this was the same one that I missed, so the redemption was sweet!! Nice 8 pt Muley, he was a big fella too.

Congrats, man, nice mule...

I have to kill a nice white-tail first, but I plan on mule-deer hunting one of these days...

my grandfather used to go hunting for mule-deer in Sanderson, TX back in his day... he shot a 4-pointer once (he never left a place without meat)... I have the antlers complete with scalp in my room, the biggest 4 point rack I've ever seen in my life...

He also took a 10 point mule-deer out there with a 20 1/2 inch inside spread, just had the European mount done... After he passed around 8 or 9 years ago I inherited the rack, it's on my wall now... My mom says it was a muley anyway, my aunt says it was a DeWitt County buck... doesn't have those tall tines as most typical mule-deer have, but I gotta believe something I guess...

Took my first deer last year... was always the fisherman of the family while they killed things... went out when I was younger, never saw anything worth shooting, so I gave up... went out and bought me a .270 last year and bagged this 'big boy' for starters:

Where did you hit him? lol

I am starting to get the fever, my aunt shot a whitetail 8 pt with a 25 1/2 in. spread, 6 years old, where I am going to hunt at Christmas.

A little Southwest of Cuero? that looks like it comes from WAYYY Southwest of Cuero...

My uncle has 160 about 4 miles outside of Cuero, has a lot of nice deer out there, found a shed of a middle-aged deer this year (antler below burr was a little less thick than above, doubt it was younger than 3 but prolly not older), prolly 17 1/2 inch spread (give or take some, kinda hard to judge without a skull) 10-pointer, very thick, very tall...

Me and 6 other guys are going mule deer hunting on Friday. Me and Bob Davis are going to the game first and then leaving for Marathon from there. 400 miles due west. One of the greatest trips you could ever go on. No electricity. No water. No nuthin'. Just a bunch of smelly guys. We actually have a generator , water heater, and submersible pump set up near a creek so we can shower. We eat good, sleep good, and really take it easy for a few days. We are real party animals. In bed by 8:00 to 8:30 most nights.

Ew, not one of them stinky bass-turds... I'll let you clean 'em

We're all full of wild pork for our sausage, just need to kill deer now, but I'm being picky, haven't even thought about touching the trigger this year...

It's pretty amazing at the amount of deer there are throughout the entire state. If you took a road trip straight through the panhandle you wouldnt be thinking "deer country." I hunted this guy down only a couple miles west of town here, and there are little ravines and canyons all over the place here. We don't see many white tail around, mostly just the muleys. But they can get stinkin big!
