View Full Version : Rookie Deer hunting can be rough.....

So I was excited today to get up, nice and refreshed, and pumped about my first legit deer hunt. We headed out to the spot outside of town around 2 this afternoon, with snow and high winds for the whole effect. (We were not hunting in the traditional way, we drove around the place and tried to spot them.:D ) We were driving along the rim of a small canyon, and right there at the bottom was a very nice muley. I hopped out, propped the gun up and the hood, and BLAM!! The buck got up, and stood there. BLAM! A few steps forward. BLAM! He looks around, a bit jumpy now, and as i reload for a fourth, yes a fourth attempt, the sucker jets off. As embarassing as this is/was, I figured i would share this and get a few laughs. Now ive got buck fever, so I'll be going back out every day this week, so I'm bound to get a piece of something!!

sounds like u need to take the rifle to the range and practice.....either that or get a hold to someones coke cans they want to recycle and practice that way...

Well we did go out and shoot about 10 rounds before we went out to hunt, so i was feeling pretty confident until it was an actual deer in the scope.

Maybe at an Army Surplus you can buy some hand grenades or a rocket launcher, those tend not to miss.

yeah and end up with the head only... at least you can have a trophy of sorts :D

You did take the cap off of the scope, right?
