The Horned Frogs will stay in the state of Texas for the postseason.

The TCU football team is expected to accept a bowl invitation from the EV1.net Houston Bowl today, according to school and bowl sources.

With a BCS bid unlikely this late in the regular season, TCU officials have decided to play in the Houston Bowl and receive a payout of $1.2 million.

Shea Guinn, chairman of the Houston Bowl, didn't return a phone call Monday night.

The Houston Bowl pairs a Big 12 opponent against a team from the SEC. But the SEC won't have enough teams to qualify for postseason play, so bowl officials sought an at-large team that would bring a crowd to Houston.

Bowl officials are looking at Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa State as possible opponents for the Dec. 31 game at Reliant Stadium.

"Houston would be a terrific bowl opportunity," TCU athletic director Danny Morrison said. "Right now, we'll be working with the MWC through the selection process."

TCU was exempt from playing in one of three MWC bowls because at least four conference teams qualified for the postseason.

Coach Gary Patterson recently said he wanted to make sure the Frogs maintained a strong recruiting base in Texas by playing in a bowl game close to home.

This will be TCU's seventh bowl appearance in the last eight years.
