1. Texas (10-0)
Didn’t play this week
next game: at Texas A&M
After the way the Fresno State offensive line pushed around the USC front four in the running game, it’s obvious the Trojans haven’t seen a physical line yet outside of Notre Dame’s. The Texas offensive line is the best in the country and would pave the way for 350 rushing yards if the Trojans played like they did against the Bulldogs.

2. USC (11-0)
W, Fresno Stat 50-42
next game: UCLA (Dec. 3)
The offense is still a juggernaut that can strike at any time, and Reggie Bush is a sight to behold. But what does it say that Bush cranked out a record-setting 513 yards of total offense, Matt Leinart was flawless, and the defense forced five turnovers, yet only beat Fresno State 50-42 at home?

3. LSU (9-1)
W, at Ole Miss 40-7
next game: Arkansas
Wouldn’t LSU like to play Tennessee again right now. The Tigers are playing extremely well right now and have all but been handed tickets to the Sugar Bowl, but watch out for Arkansas this week; this isn’t the same Hog team that was getting rolled earlier this season.

4. Notre Dame (8-2)
W, Syracuse 34-10
next game: at Stanford
For all of you pointing to the Michigan State loss, that was a far different and more confident team than it is now. Still a mystery in the mix, the Irish is one win at Stanford away from the Fiesta Bowl and, most likely, either Penn State or Oregon. Had Penn State played a sharp game at Michigan State, it would be in the number four spot.

5. Penn State (10-1)
W, at Michigan State 31-22
next game: BOWL GAME
It wasn’t a pretty win at Michigan State with several dropped passes, a few too many yards allowed, and not enough consistency on offense, but it was a win in a bear trap of a game against a team playing for its bowl life. 10-1 is 10-1, and now JoePa will likely get a trip to Tempe or Miami. A win in the BCS Bowl might mean a No. 2 finish.

6. Ohio State (9-2)
W, at Michigan 25-21
next game: BOWL GAME
Troy Smith is playing out of this world. The win over Michigan was more dominant than it might have seemed considering the classic comeback needed to save the day. The defense stuffed the Wolverine running game cold. No one in the BCS wants to face this team and this defense.

7. Auburn (9-2)
W, Alabama 28-18
next game: BOWL GAME or SEC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
That wasn’t some D-IAA defense Auburn ran over this week. The Tigers are playing with confidence and ruthless efficiency. Everything is working on the defensive line at the moment, and it showed by shots on Alabama’s Brodie Croyle over and over and over again.

8. Miami (8-2)
L, Georgia Tech 14-10
next game: Virginia
Anyone who watched Miami before the Virginia Tech game had a clue this could happen. The offensive line couldn’t handle the Georgia Tech blitzes, and the running game without Tyrone Moss finally hit a brick wall. Even with the loss to Georgia Tech, don’t dismiss how good this defense still is.

9. Virginia Tech (9-1)
W, at Virginia 52-14
next game: North Carolina
Don’t think that Virginia Tech backed its way into the ACC title game. Remember that the Hokies obliterated the same Georgia Tech team that beat Miami. With the dominant win over Virginia, it appears the Miami game was simply a case of the team playing way too tight, and Miami playing way too well for Marcus Vick. With a return trip to the BCS there for the taking, don’t expect any more slip ups.

10. Michigan (7-4)
L, Ohio State 25-21
next game: BOWL GAME
The team played its heart out against a nasty Ohio State team, but Troy Smith proved to be too much. This might be a bit too high for a team with four losses, but the Wolverines are roughly four plays away from being unbeaten. Don’t forget that this is the only team to beat Penn State, and don’t forget how well it was playing before the loss to the Buckeyes

I agree and good analysis. Except let's leave USC as No. 1. No need in taking that pressure off them.

If anything, the pressure is on USC when they are #1, Phil. They have to maintain that position and all of the streaks they had going. Granted, not many people think they are number 1 after their performance last night.
