Probably my second-favorite band of all time. My heyday was during the grunge era, but I loved the Eagles, The Guess Who (definitely not The Who... hated that band) and Steppenwolf. Also listened to a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Creedence, Aerosmith, OLD Rolling Stones, Buffalo Springfield and (a little more into the 80's-ish rock) Blue Oyster Cult. Those were the tapes I had.

Man...funny you should bring up Jackson Browne. I was just thumping along to "Tender Is The Night" on my Real Rhapsody player.

All time faves (top 5)...

Thin Lizzy (one of the most under-rated rock bands of all time)
Foghat
Rush
Bob Seger
Bad Company

"Close 2nds"...

38 Special
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Kansas
Eddie Money
ZZTop
Foreigner
Journey
Styx
Toto
Eagles
John Mellencamp
Chicago
Blackfoot

Highly Honorable Mention...

Heart
Doobie Bros.
Steve Miller Band
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Boston
Fleetwood Mac
Bryan Adams
Steve Winwood
The Cars
Genesis
REO Speedwagon

Today's modern rock just doesn't match up with the classic rock of the 70's and early 80's, but there are a few current band exceptions:

Goo Goo Dolls (the worst name ever, but they sound great)
Third Eye Blind
Vertical Horizon
Matchbox 20
Michelle Branch

I never understood the popularity of Pink Floyd and the Doors. To me, the music of the Doors wasn't that good, and Pink Floyd was just too weird to enjoy. Just my two cents.

When I want to relax...

James Taylor
Phil Keaggy instrumentals (considered by some to be the greatest guitar player in the world)
various Smooth Jazz mixes

Good topic! Thanks for starting it, 3Afan.

Triumph

How about top classic rock albums of all time?

I'll throw out a few on my list:

Bob Seger - "Night Moves"

Fleetwood Mac - "Rumors"

3afan, you're speaking my language, bubba.

Remember the song "Gator Country" from Molly Hatchet? They were making fun of people from any southern state at the expense of glorifying their home stomping grounds of Florida. Here's the lyrics:

I've been to alabama, people ain't a whole lot to see;
Skynyrd says it's a real sweet home but it ain't nothing to me.
Charlie daniels will tell you the good lord lives in tenessee, ha!
But i'm going back to gator country where the wine and the women are free.

Chorus:
There's a gator in the bushes, he's calling my name,
And a saying come on boy, you better make it back home again.
There's many roads i've travelled but they all kind of look the same.
There's a gator in the bushes, lord, he calling my name.

Old richard betts will tell ya lord he was born a ramblin' man.
Well he can ramble back to georgia but i won't give a damn.
Elvin bishop out struttin his stuff with little miss slick titty boom.
But i'm going back to gator country to get me some elbow room.

Chorus:
There's a gator in the bushes he's calling my name.

That was a great song...humorous, too...but I didn't care for the jab at Texas (Elvin Bishop's home state).

They have been around for about or over a decade, and I have no doubt that they will be a classic band of this generation, but calling them classic while they are still in their prime is a little premature.

Geez! You guys are peaking over the internet into my music collection! How did you do that?

I LOVE PINK FLOYD! I think because it's all blues, but written as Rock. (FYI....Band name came from the names of 2 great blues artists put together)

When I was younger, I HATED Ozzy Osbourne! Now that I've mellowed a little, I really like some of his stuff like Crazy Train, Mama I'm Coming Home, etc.

How about Jethro Tull (Aqua Lung)? The only Rock and Roll FLUTE player?

I have 2 classic rock stations I can pick up here in BC - 101.3 out of Lake Charles La and 103.7 out of Houston. Gotta Love It!

I LOVE PINK FLOYD!

I totally agree!!! I love Floyd as well. I "discovered" them when I was in the military, many moons (no pun intended) ago. Either you listened to country or Floyd. I didn't like country back then,I do now. But Floyd was da bomb, especially if you were really buzzed and had some chick you never met before on your lap!! LOL!! I have the video of Live 8,when they performed together for the first time in 20 YEARS,this past July!!! Man,they just kicked butt!!! It was like Roger Waters never left!!! They sounded great!!!!

BTW,I never could understand the obsession with Skynard or the song 'Freebird'. Or Kiss,Jethro Tull either. Kiss,I liked some of their songs but I don't get it!!

My favorites,in no particular order: Pink Floyd,Van Halen,The Beatles,Journey,Sammy Hagar,The Eagles,Santana,Def Leppard,Metallica,CCR,Boston,Chicago,Loverboy,Whit e Snake,Bon Jovi,Paul McCartney & Wings,Billy Joel,Bob Seger,Genesis,John (Cougar) Mellencamp,Michael Jackson (when he was black),Motley Crue,Ozzy,Black Sabbath,Night Ranger,Nirvana,Rod Stewart,Styx,Rolling Stones,U2 & ZZ Top. It's so weird hearing all the 80's rock bands mentioned as classic rock. Even though they've been playing on classic rock stations for a few years now, I still associate it with the hard rock from the mid-60's to late-70's.

I guess I'm getting old. Before I know it, everyone will be calling Nirvana and Pearl Jam classic rock.

As far as 80's rock goes, I liked BOC and Bob Seger from the first part of the decade, Metallica from the rest, GnR from the end, Aerosmith through it all, the Clash, the Top Gun soundtrack (very first tape I ever owned, very first movie I ever owned) and Bon Jovi. Can't think of much else I really cared for. Then again, wasn't even 10 when all that stuff came out.

Man, one child told me that CCR was going to be in San Angelo, Tx, I told her, Yeah right Cerdence Clearwater Revival is coming to San Angelo (Sarcasticly)then she said No Canadian Cross Ragweed that CCR. I had to tell her, that her CCR was not the real CCR and She got madder than He** at me, I just laughed at her!

Nancy Wilson up close had to be one of the best seats in the house, 3afan. She is now in her 50's, but still looks great! She recorded her one and only solo album back in '99. It's an acoustic set recorded at a guitar shop with probably 50 or so (at least it sounds that way) people in the audience. Good stuff if you like acoustic settings (like me).

Even though I was an 80s teenager and liked the bands RangerMom and others mentioned from that era, Boston was my favorite group. Their best stuff was from their 70s albums.

Did anyone here attend Arrow Fest in Houston on October 29? It featured Styx, Foghat, Little River Band, Eddie Money, Kansas, Fabulous Thunderbirds, and Foreigner...I may have left out one or two, but those are the ones I remember. I missed the show and I'm curious to know how good were the performances and what were the highlights. Anyone?

Nope. Before the Tull, there was It's A Beautiful Day. Their only hit was "White Bird" and their first and only decent album was "It's A Beautiful Day." Their second album "Marrying Maiden" sucked; I bought it because the first one was so good; I think they were totally fried by LSD by then.
well admittedly the Flautist David LaFlamme didn't rock as hard as Ian Anderson of Jethro, and he was probably too fried to stand on one leg, but he was still good. He also played the electric violin.

I know you're dying to learn more; here's the link

Typical 1-Hit Hippy Wonders, but White Bird was totally kewl (http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/gramophone/873/)

I totally forgot about Ratt!!! I used to really like them too. My first concert ever was to see them plus their opening act Momma's Boys and Twist Sister @ the old City Coliseum (which is torn down now) in Austin. They didn't sell many pre-sale tickets but to buy them at the door, there was a line about 3 blocks long. Luckily,my best friend and I got in. Ratt kicked butt!!! Twisted Sister was good too but Dee Snider kept dropping the "F-bomb" about every other word!!!
