What did you get? I traded in my Chevy Avalanche for a VW Jetta and I must say the 30-35mpg is MUCH better than my lovely 15mpg in my truck

Yeah no joke. I traded in my Expedition for a Grand Prix last year and I'm loving the extra cash. (Miss the space tho)

yeah my monthly payment is about $170 more but my gas is at least that much cheaper during football season and the insurance is about $60 less each month...

My payment went up 2 dollars, insurance went down $20 (not sure how, I got the GTP model, supercharged) and I am saving almost $200 on gas.

I gave my Ford SuperCrew to my son and am trading in his Durango. I was getting 14 mpg on good days (in the Durango)...I am getting a Honda Accord Coupe(this will become my daughter's car in a few years when she gets her drivers license)...and it is supposed to get 24-30 city and 34-40 highway! WooooHoooooo, I can not wait. I know what you mean on the space thing...I am sure we are going to be a little cramped come Christmas and the 6 hour trip back home. But, at least we won't be spending $200 on gas one way!!!

One thing I found that was consistent in the reviews on Honda is that the Accords don't get anything near what the posted mileage is. On average, people were getting about 20 in the city and 24-28 on the highway in any model between '03 and '05. My VW is listed at 22/30 and I get 24-25 in the city and between 30-38 on the highway. I got 38 coming back from Midland and about 35 from Lubbock because of the downhill travel but still getting over 30 mpg on the highway when the trek is going uphill. I really like the styling on Honda though and it was between that and the Jetta but VW has a 4 yr/50,000 mile warranty and since I have driven almost 5,000 miles in 2 months...I need all the warranty I can get! Hope you love the Honda though...how much more was it for a Hybrid?

that's awesome! I looked at the G6 but it doesn't have enough headroom for me being 6'2". I wish my payment would have only gone up $2 but I was only paying about $250/month for my Avalanche since I bought it used as an '02 so I the increase in price was expected buying an '06.

well, we got a great deal. That thing will flat out get it on the highway too. You push that gas pedal and you have to peel yourself out of the seat, it's awesome.

P.S. I can get away with the less headroom I'm only 5'11''

Yeah the Jetta will get up from 0-40 and having the "auto manual" CVT shift is a blast to drive but it does lag a little bit getting from 60-80. I bought the 2.5 liter inline 5 cylinder. Kinda wish I would have waited for the 2.0 turbo because it has A LOT of pop to it and I could have got navigation built in but I am happy with what I have now for sure. Just wish I didn't live in Abilene where the VW dealership isn't the brightest bunch. The dealerships in San Antonio and Dallas have been VERY helpful and informative so I will likely buy from them next time because I am very pleased with VW's products right now.

We researched the VW's and even the Audi's (just an $$$ version of the VW).....but, since I live in BFE there were no dealers within a 4 hour radius :( I have a friend who has an 04 Accord and she is getting close to 40 on the highway! I like the looks of the VWs too! The 16 airbags that come with this one will be comforting...when my daughter starts driving ;)

Yeah airbags were definitely a concern of mine. For example on a Camry, unless you buy one that has navigation you aren't going to find any side curtain airbags on them and going from a truck to a car I wanted every safety feature available regardless of what interior features I did/didn't get on my car. That's awesome that she is getting 40 mpg on the highway though!! I wonder if the reviews online are only from people wanting to gripe about what they don't like in their car.

That was my thoughts...I was really concerned about going from big to small...but I think I will be ok knowing I am cocooned with all those air bags-------that may be the case with the reviews...I only have that one friend with an Accord so that is all the info I have.

Being 6'3" would be a factor in choosing the size of car you drive. :)

You should try our policy. Until I moved off after graduation...we had THREE boys that were 22, 17, and 18 on the same policy with my parents. It was rough on them indeed so I just got my own!
