Though I know how it ends...it's gonna be a blast to watch! The hand with Matusow's kings vs Lazar's aces...hitting the king only for the 8% runner-runner hearts to make it to cripple Mike's stack...WOW! What is funny is about 10 minutes before they start Matusow was over at the Card Player table where Hellmuth and Negraneu are doing play-by-play for the internet and he says "man the only way I lose this thing is if I run kings into aces or something"...and then WHAMY!!!

I realize you have to stay in with a lot more hands when down to final two, but the Australian staying in with the 7-3 and then flopping 4,5,6 for straight to win it all was amazing.

No that was the first time that they had shown it on TV. It took place back this summer and could be watched online through www.cardplayer.com Though injured would disagree, I really wanted to see Matusow win this one. He is a graet player and one that doesn't get enough credit for his abilities. Just wait until the WSOP Tournament of Champions is run on a 3-hr special on Christmas Eve. I won't tell you who wins but the final table includes Hoyt Corkins, Phil Hellmuth, and Mike Matusow. It was filmed at the brand new poker room @ Caesar's and should make for some exciting TV for those of you not working on Christmas Eve! :(

not really. Hachem was only a 3/1 underdog before the flop. Also, in heads-up play it is ALWAYS the correct play to call the big blind to see the flop. Hachem called the minimum raise that Dannenman (a player who didn't exhibit a lot of skill throughout the tourney...regardless of what the announcers said) could have put out being the first to act. Also, consider that the blinds were only 300K/600K and Hachem had over 35 million in chips. It cost him roughly 2% of his stack to see a flop. This is a play that any pro would make given the same situation. Hachem played very solid poker at the final table while other players were making many VERY amateur moves that cost them millions of dollars in prize money.

what i was talkin about is that espn showed the winner a couple months ago....just like injured said i wouldnt last 2 mintues with him either...if i was that sheikran guy or whatever i would have dropped him right there....matusow is such a little nerd...i still remember last year when he got knocked out he cried on tv and said god i played the best poker of my life.....and another one i really hate is hellmuth....he acts like he is never supposed to get beat on any hand and if he does he always says the other people play horrible poker....my favorite player is probably phil ivey

Excellent explanation, adidas. Dannenman should have made bigger bet.
I can see the logic for Hachem staying, but flopping the straight was still pure luck.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...... Oye, oye, oye... (sp?)

Well if you actually watched the way some hands are played against Hellmuth on TV and you factor in their position at the table, their chip stack, the overall feel of the table (which you can't pickup on TV because they show 30 hands from 13+ hrs of play) then you would understand why Hellmuth says what he does. Does he overreact? Yes but he is right in what he is saying. The one hand where a guy limps...Hellmuth raises with A/K and then the guy comes over the top for K/J and then hits a jack...it was a BAD play on the guy's part to just want to race off his chip stack with k/j. Sadly though, I see a lot of people, especially online players, make this play with k/j and q/j/ and q/10 and feel it is a "good play" when in reality you are LUCKY to be in a "coin flip" situation but often times will find yourself dominated against something like a/j, a/q, or a/k. For me, it has been a play that I have profited greatly from online when players will limp, you raise with position on them to go with your premium cards, and they move over the top of you BEFORE THE FLOP and you say "thanks for the chips...bye bye now" a lot more often than you would lose. Remember, Hellmuth wins this situation roughly 75% of the time so the DID make a terrible play. And no...to say that "well that's poker" is wrong because it isn't poker...it's just gambling and players like that kill the logic and strategy that goes into the game and makes it a strategy game and not a game of gambling...which is why many casinos have been hesitant to put in poker rooms because the house has NO ADVANTAGE in it!

That is one of the crappy things that online poker has done to professional tourneys. Now you have guys that spent $10-100 to qualify so they will make plays that they never would have made if they had put up $10,000 of their own money to enter. Also, it is a HUGE deal for them to make the money because the $12,500 payout for just barely cashing is HUGE when you spent $20 to enter.

Sorry to vent...just wanted to clarify some of the huge misconceptions that people have about poker and try to provide some insight into what the game is about and why you often see pros upset over many of the bad plays that amateurs make. The strategy of poker is something that I LOVE and has been quite profitable for me over the past 2 years...on a scale relative to the stakes that I wish to play for. Then again...I need people to keep making these bad plays so that I can keep making money.

I was just saying that his comments regarding his beats in the WSOP this year were justified in that the guys DID play horrible poker against him that they wouldn't have against other guys. Heck you saw Dannenman call a raise from Lederer with K/5 hearts and then move all-in with he hit a 5 on the flop. A VERY weak play and one that almost knocked him out of the tourney if he hadn't started to catch cards after that and get on a nice little rush.

Just shows in Hold Em that any 2 hole cards can win. I got beat on the internet last night 3 times on all ins that I was ahead of after the flop. Never know sometimes.

One thing many people do not think about in heads-up play is that 3/2 would be your weakest holding and NOT 7/2 because of the strength of the 7 kicker over the 3.

Yeah I just love online play because people will make moves on there that they wouldn't in a b&m casino because they dont HAVE to take the ridicule and looks that people will make regarding their bad play. Yet another advantage to beginners to play online but another fallacy of pro tourneys these days because there are so many amateurs making these plays live and then getting defensive (see the Hellmuth situation) when somebody chastises them for "being an idiot."

What was your stack, your position, the action pre-flop, what did the other guy end up having, and what were the blinds at? Moving over the top may not have been the strongest play that you could have made there. Just curious because I love to discuss hands whenever I have the chance. Gotta run to our other store...back in about 15 minutes.

Yeah Injured, Matasow is a D-BAG. It's cuz of guys like him that they're going to start making reality shows about poker players. I will say though that it was funny when he got an hour sit-out for dropping the f-bomb and then when the dealer said something to the TD, and the TD told Matasow he had to sit out, he did it like 5 more times. I laughed my head off.
