All Cuero in this one. I say 35-14. Cuero will not be really challenged until they probably play Libery Hill. Region 4 is not like Region 3 right now. They will have some decent teams to play, but not really too tough of competition for them.

i guess i should join this conversation, since i am probably one of the few on this board that knows much about llano, i will have to say that the liberty hill game was the worst game we have played all year lots of turnovers but that is not what this thread is about. llano has some good momentum coming into this game after a solid win over poteet on friday night. i say llano in a close one.

Last meeting between the two was the 2nd round of the '97 playoffs (the last year before the D1/D2 split)...

Cuero won 14-10 I believe in New Braunfels... was my freshman year... Llano was really tough that year...

hornfan
11-12-2005, 11:52 PM
yea we were really good that year, it was my freshman year as well and that is when brad kassell was our quarterback/strong safety, who now is a starting linebacker for the titans and he played with a torn up knee with a few torn ligaments that night...quite an effort if you ask me i believe it was a partially torn acl and mcl

Early's the D1 rep in the district with Ballinger and only lost one game all season.

Llano won't be a pushover. I don't know that they'll win, but I do know they will give it a fight until the final buzzer sounds.

Cuero should win big. I wasnt to impressed with Llano when they played Wimberley. Wimberley hung 35 on them in the first half, then pulled the starters out for the second half so Cuero should breeze on by.

Are your gobblers as good as last year? Our offense is definitely more potent, and our defense is just as strong as last season, just needs to fix a few tiny things. Overall, we're standing in good terms! Compared to last year, I'm not too sure, I'd have a different viewpoint if I was the one doing the playing. Go Texans and Gobblers!

llano doesn't match up very well. i think you guys will get by this one without any troubles! any one from cuero, can you tell me what kind of year the running back that committed to a&m is having?

gobblergolf
11-15-2005, 09:49 AM
Coop is having a pretty good year considering that he is still recovering from a major injury. Cuero has the good fortune to also have a hell of a running back in Olgin that is only a junior this year and because of that, Coop is not forced to carry the load while still recovering. I haven't seen as many games as the other posters from our town but from what I can tell, he is steadily gaining strength, speed, and confidence. He has turned into more of a power back these days, as oppossed to the finesse back that he was back in his sophomore year. Either way, he is finding a way to get the job done and last week he had an impressive run outside, where he layed an awesome stiff-arm onto the other teams linebacker. Judging from this year, Coop still has plenty of room to grow but A&M will play a big role in his ongoing recovery. As his friend from back home and a current Aggie, I know that we'll be looking forward to his days on Kyle Field. If he finds a way to combine his flashy runs as a sophomore with his power runs of the present, he could be a force in college. Sorry, I couldnt explain him more stat-wise for the year, but hopefully this at least helps a little!

11-15-2005, 09:18 PM

There was a mention earlier of Early on this thread. One of the up and coming programs in all of 2A football. Somebody told me the other day they got Stephenvilles offensive coordinator and some other big school's defensive coordinator and decided to get in the game. Look at texasfootballratings.com. They were 3-7 last year and ranked 114th in 2A. They could crack the top 10 this week.

Turns out, it really is all about coaching and community support. :D

Speed to burn
Cuero hopes to use quickness against Llano

November 18, 2005

MIKE FORMAN
Advocate Sports Writer

Cuero coach Mark Reeve got a phone call from Llano coach David Yeager earlier this week.

Linebacker Dason Jackson (19) and the Cuero defense will look for another strong showing when the Gobblers play Llano in a Class 3A, Division II area playoff game tonight at Farris Stadium in San Antonio.

The Llano coaching staff had just finished watching the three videotapes Cuero had provided and Yeager asked if the games were taped at regular speed.

Yeager was joking about the tapes but he was completely serious about the team speed Cuero possesses.

The Gobblers (10-0) hope to put their speed to good use when they meet Llano (8-3) in a Class 3A, Division II area playoff game today at 7:30 p.m. at Farris Stadium in San Antonio. "They are big," Reeve said, "but they don't have a lot of speed, especially in the secondary."

Llano's lack of speed should bode well for Cuero's passing game. Quarterback Kyle Noack passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns in last week's 34-12 bi-district win over Sweeny, including touchdown passes of 71 and 49 yards to Justin Wesley, who had six for 162 yards.

In addition, Cuero receiver Tre Gray, who missed the Sweeny game after suffering a concussion against Edna, has been cleared to play against Llano.

"Our offense has been getting better every week," said Noack, who has passed for 1,927 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. "This is the time you want to start getting hot and we seem to be doing that."

Reeve is confident in Cuero's ability to move the ball against the Llano defense provided it gets enough opportunities.

"They run a slow-down game," Reeve said. "They like to control the ball with their running game and they can throw the ball pretty effectively. The thing about it is you don't get that many chances."

Llano switched from a no-huddle spread offense to the Wing-T when Yeager took over as head coach before this season. The Yellowjackets rely heavily on quarterback Jordan Leverett and fullback Shane Pope.

"They do a good job with their offense," Reeve said. "They have a really good fullback who gets a lot of carries. Their quarterback also does a good job."

Llano controlled the ball for almost 10 minutes on its opening drive in last week's 27-20 bi-district win over Poteet. The Yellowjackets scored the decisive touchdown on a 46-yard run by T.J. Bunnell in the fourth quarter.

"Our defense is set up for the Wing-T offense," Reeve said. "It's an eight-man front geared to stop the run. This is really a 1940s' defense adapted to what you do for the spread."

Llano advanced to the playoffs as the third-place team in District 27-3A. The Yellowjackets dropped a 13-10 non-district decision to Early and lost district games to Liberty Hill (63-14) and Wimberley (42-17).

Reeve was proud of the way the Gobblers rebounded from a bad bounce on a deflected pass that allowed Sweeny to take a 6-0 lead.

"I don't think any kind of panic ever runs through our kids' minds," Reeve said. "They have a lot of confidence. I was proud of the way we came back on defense. I thought our defense really set the tone in the second half."

Reeve will look for the Cuero defense to control the pace of the game against Llano by getting the ball back to the offense.

"I really believe we're maturing as a defensive football team," Reeve said. "We realize the big key for us is to come out and control the line of scrimmage."

NOTES: Llano will be the home team...The game will be broadcast on KZAM, 104.7 FM and Web cast on www.lonestarfm.com...Cuero and Llano last met in the 1997 area playoffs and the Gobblers won 13-7...The Cuero-Llano winner will play the winner of the Rio Hondo-Ingleside game, which will be played tonight at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville, in the regional round.

yes, in '97...Area playoffs...Cuero won 13-7 or something like that...

ok thanks...apparently llano only throws the ball 6 or 7 times a game. Cuero will have to stuff that wing-T formation to keep them from driving the ball and taking a lot of time off the clock. they had like a 10 minute drive last week that won the game for them. hopefully we will see Llano's punter appear quickly and often during the game.
