Congratulations to the Kennedale Wildcats. After the interception, the game turned around. Good defense in the 2nd half.

Kennedale rushes to victory

IRVING -- Early on, it looked as if Royse City had an unstoppable running game.

However, Kennedale remained patient with its own ground game and eventually wore down Royse City for a 45-24 victory Friday in a Class 3A Division I Region II bi-district game.

The victory avenged Kennedale's loss to Royse City in last year's playoffs.

Kennedale's Mickey Norris ran for 232 yards and two touchdowns as the Wildcats advanced to face Kaufman, a 28-19 winner over Commerce

"The coaches prepared us well," said Norris, who rushed for 1,180 yards in nine regular-season games

"Our line got after it and we did a good job selling our fakes. We just went out and did the best we could."

Kennedale (8-2) trailed 14-10 after the first quarter and looked to be in trouble. Royse City back Cameron Holliness ran for 125 yards in the first quarter alone, including a 63-yard touchdown.

The Wildcats turned things in the second quarter when Eric Brooks returned an interception 73 yards for a score.

Kennedale improved its lead to 24-14 by halftime when Ryan Leary took a reverse 70 yards for a score.

Then on the first play of the second half, Norris -- held to 52 yards in the first half -- ran 80 yards for his first touchdown. He added a 60-yard run in the fourth quarter as Kennedale finished with 422 rushing yards.

The Wildcats held Holliness to 17 yards in the second quarter and a total of 216.

Kasib Williams (46-yard TD) and Lance Canter (20-yard TD) also had big plays for Kennedale, which finished second in the four-team District 10-3A.

The Wildcats entered the playoffs averaging nearly 29 points and 315 yards per game.

Against Royse City, Kennedale was 2 for 6 passing for 8 yards.
